I'm looking for a snap setter of some kind. I've been looking around and I've seen two different types, it seems (besides the pliers and the hammer-them-in kind) One looks like you put the cloth on a table between the parts of the snap-bit, and then pull down on a big handle on the top... The other looks like a C-clamp with a vice-grips like handle. Which one works better/lasts longer/is easier to use, etc? I think the c-clamp one is a press-n-snap, the other seems to just be calle either a 'professional' or 'industrial' snap press. Help! O.o

I bought one of the industrial kinds and I love it. It works great, doesn't wear you out, and places the snaps perfectly. I bought it thru Serena of Notion Supply yahoo group. She is an awesome lady, she runs an orphanage in China and in her "spare" time she ships out these presses and other stuff at a super good price. I have heard that the clamp type don't really work so well, but then I've never used one.

the big industrial kind is called a snap press, it's about $70 at least, so it's a bit of an investment.
there's also something actually called a Snapsetter, at snapsource.com - it's metal snaps with long prongs, and there's lots of online feedback if you google for it saying that they stay in with no problems, and look and work just like plastic snaps. so they would be suitable for nappies, at a much lower cost outlay.
only difference is, being metal, they'll weigh more. and they take longer to put in, but the snapsetter only costs $10. that's a small stapler-like thing that you use with a hammer.

I just purchased the Snap Source snap setter. It only does metal snaps, not the plastic/resin ones. It hasn't arrived yet, but I did find quite a bit of good feedback on it. And it's a heckuva lot cheaper! I bought the setter and 50 snaps for $22 (including shipping). I'm not planning to use snaps a lot, so I figured this was a good alternative to the big professional press.
