I thik I overstated when I said "wrote" for them. I think they tell them what kind of wording Harvard is looking for and work with them to write it

RedWine, that's not entirely certain. Harvard (and other Ivy Leagues) admit that there's not a quality difference between the kids they admit, the kids they wait list, and the first thousand or so kids not to make the cut. What that says to me is that non-admission to Harvard isn't a reliable signal that you aren't good enough for Harvard. There are lots of great public school kids who aren't getting into Harvard because of the way Harvard handles public vs. private school applicants, legacy vs. non-legacy applicants and other issues unrelated to the actual quality of the candidate.

I agree with you on the first sentence. There are tons of people who are "good enough" who don't get in...simply because there are not as many available spaces as there are quality applicants.

However, I do not believe there is preferential treatment based solely on public vs. private, or higher vs. lower income. I do know there is a legacy bias -- however, this legacy bias is consiously reduced each year.
