Cheer Me On!

I am finally sitting down to type my ALACE certification exam. I attended the weekend training in Jan this year and went to 6 births in the USA. Then, I lived abroad and volunteered at a birth center where I went to another 20 births (and got to catch one babe!).

I thought that if i posted here, it would hold me accountable to finishing up my Exam over the next few days. My goal is to be done by Sunday. All of my other paperwork is complete! So, please cheer me on and please post about your progress, too!

You can do it.

I will be attending a birth doula training in Jan. and I am actively looking for a postpartum doula training that I can attend. It will be at least 2 years before I am in your shoes, I imagine... you should be so proud and honored to have the opportunity to help other women in such a special way.

Finish it up so you can be on your way!

You can do it!

Congratulations for committing to getting it done. I attended training in August and still working on reading/attending births. My time will come! Have fun!

You can do it! Be thorough, esp on the question about sexual abuse. Take your time and think of all aspects of the question. Have fun realizing all the stuff you know, now!

:

don't bother being brief in any way, you'll just end up re-doing your answers after Susan Cassel gets a hold of your exam! she's awesome.

Rah Rah ALACE! Go go go go!

Thanks for the tips on not being brief. I was struggling to wonder how much info i should include. I was thinking about how they read these things every single day probably and didn't want to overwhelm them with details.

So, I am going to go back over my answers and make sure they are thorough. I finished the short answer questions and five of the 13 essays. Woo hoo! I needed a little MDC break.

Thanks so much for the encouragement ladies! I love being able to log on here and find that.

Wahoo! YOu're so close...keep up the hard work. And ditto for pp suggestions about not being brief. I'm more of a literal test-taker, so I answer exactly what each question asked for, and ended up having to re-do maybe 4 questions (including the sexual abuse one ). The person I talked to said something like "read the question and imagine what knowledge we're hoping to get you to demonstrate, and then answer it that way."...

...wouldn't it just be easier to ask the wuestion more thoroughly?!!! But I digress ....you go girl!

I FINISHED!!! I e-mailed my Final Exam in yesterday to ALACE. Woo hoo.

I tried to be thorough and thoughtful about each question that I answered. With my social worker education, I felt pretty confident about answering the sexual abuse one. The "stages of labor" was probably the longest answer i gave though, geesh.

I will keep you posted about if I have to re-do any of them. let's hope not! it would be really nice to be done before the end of the year. it was really helpful reading about how you all approached this exam and your advice. thank you!!!

You go girl! I finished all my other cert requirements in October and still haven't done my exam! Thanks for inspiring me to sit down and actually do it. Question though--what constitutes an essay reply? Like, should it have a intro, body, conclusion? Or does it just have to be long and thorough?
