That's a good point. Of course if we can't get financing, it's no deal. But in this part of Virginia, it's really not that uncommon, esp. as areas that used to be more 'rural' are suburbanized, as this neighborhood has.
I doubt that if we demolished the house, we'd be allowed to put up *another* log cabin, or a yurt for that matter. It's becoming a fairly nice neighborhood w/ a serious HOA. Heck, I want to make sure we can put up a fence!

I really appreciate all of the replies here, even though none of them were the "go for it, it'll be fine!" response I was secretly hoping for! We have an appt to see inside this weekend, and will start looking for other houses afterwards...
