birth videos featuring African American or Latina mothers?

Hello all,

I am just getting started teaching Bradley classes in Chicago. I bought a lot of wonderful videos and charts from a former teacher - great stuff. BUT, the videos are dated and overwhelmingly white - except Birth Day.

Can anyone recommend some birth videos that feature African American or Latina moms and families? Or, books, articles, artwork?

Many thanks!

Warmly,
Mary mom to Goodwin, partner to Greg

The Academy sells a video called Birth in the Squatting Position that is filmed in Brazil. Of course, it's dated like most of their stuff, but it's a good video.

The 3 Rs from DONA is mostly white but not 100%. And I just got the video from itsmybodymybabymybirth.com and it's more diverse and really excellent, IMO.

There's Birth Day I haven't seen it personally, but I have heard it is very nice.

When The Business of Being Born comes out on DVD, that might be a nice one to have -- you could excerpt it.

Three R's shows an African American woman having an awesome experience.

Lamaze's Everyday Miracles shows a Hispanic couple and an African American couple.

Waterbirth: A Sacred Journey shows mostly Guatamalan couples.

That's all I can think of right now.

There is a film by a midwife named Maria Iorillo that is quite culturally diverse, from what I hear.

ETA: I just looked up the title, and it's the same one SublimeBirthGirl mentioned. You can watch the first three minutes online:

Miracle of birth 2

Shows 5 births. First caucasian couple chooses epidural, all goes well and successful breastfeeding (all show babies breastfeeding after birth). One is Asian couple ( unplanned cesarean), one is African american couple, one is a hispanic single mother with a doula unmedicated. Last is a twin birth unmedicated but epidural cath in place but not activated. All are hospital births.

What I like best about the film is it presents birth in a value neutral way...no one birth is presented as THE BEST WAY.

Also, each baby is greeted as a miracle with tears of joy...no matter how they enter the world.
