Very low iron anyone?

The MW admitted to having some trouble with her equipment and we all agreed I couldn't be quite SO low (7.9), however, I feel I am pretty darn low. Even my nurse mom thinks so by looking at me and under my eyes.

I am pretty pale/yellow looking and pretty week. I passed a lot of blood in the pool and my placenta came apart on its way out. I had huge clots coming out of me in the pool and just outside, then some in the next few days.

The MW gave me Methergine when I got out which is like Pitocin but in pill form to stop the bleeding.

At nearly 7 days PP, I look terrible! We took a very short walk yesterday for the first time and I looked even worse and felt a lil weak in the knees afterwards. It's the first time between weakness and the hemorrhoids that I have been off the couch or bed!

I am eating iron-rich foods and taking pills, and I bought Chlorophyll yesterday.

Anyone else look like death warmed over? I am shocked at how easily I became anemic. I know it was a lot of blood, but THAT much? Really?? To make me that pale and fairly weak for so long?

My hematocrit dropped from 33 to 23 and I had methergine, pitocin & CYTOTEC TO STOP THE BLEEDING. Whoops, NAK, sorry. I'm on monster iron supplements (324 mg x 3 a day) and still feeling really tired and droopy & pale. Forget taking a walk, stuffing the turkey took it out of me this morning.

Definitely look into some supplementation, and you might want to get your numbers checked again so you know what your hematocrit really is. I didn't want to take mine bc they constipate, but got a second opinion from my SIL, an OB-GYN and she said that if I was really that anemic, I needed the supplements. She mentioned that milk supply is a concern if you get too run down.

I was so excited to have a VBAC and avoid the recovery process of a section, so it's a bummer to have this droopy dish rag feeling. Sigh.

It will get better, it will get better, it will get better....

I lost a ton of blood as well (hemmoraged after the twins' c-section) and after receiving 4 pints of blood, my iron was really low. I am JUST NOW starting to feel a little better after a few weeks of iron supplements and eating lots of iron rich foods as well. The first 2 weeks, I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO dizzy and I looked like I had been hit by a truck. Its just in the last couple days that I am starting to feel a little more "normal" and I really appreciate that feeling after the last few weeks of hell.

I was surprised that she said she would just check it again in two weeks or so. I would think I look enough like hell that it was worth a poke. But I haven't been so woozy this week and with the hems being so bad, I wasn't really moving around at all to test that.

So I will keep hitting it with both barrels then and hope to feel and look better in a couple of weeks!
