Please help me help my baby

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new here, and hope you can help. Just as background, my 3-year-old has allergies to peanuts, almonds, and milk and has outgrown a couple. Now my baby (3 1/2 months) is having some pretty troubling symptoms. He is very fussy, gassy, and poops about 8-10 times a day, usually mucousy, and the color varies from greenish to yellowish. He also has eczema on his forehead, but nowhere else, yet. Knock on wood, he is growing well and even a little chubby.

My older son never pooped this much or had this much gas. I'm pretty worried about the baby. I haven't taken him to the ped yet (not sure it would help). I am BFing and have avoided peanuts, tree nuts, and for the most part, dairy, the whole time I've been BFing. I started an elimination diet on Monday (mainly just turkey, lamb, rice, potatoes, squash, and a little bit of grapes and carrots), but so far, he seems worse instead of better! I am hoping still that it will help, but is there anything I can do for him in the meantime? Can anyone recommend a probiotic that would be safe for him?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you substituting soy for the dairy? If so, try eliminating that. Good luck.

No, I am having nothing... except turkey, lamb, rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, grapes, carrots, and a little olive oil for cooking. Oh, and my vitamins, of course.

He does seem a bit better today, although he is still pooping about 10 times a day (smaller quantity, though).

Anyone have any advice on a safe probiotic for an almost 4-month-old that contains no dairy or other allergens?

Thanks!

What's in your vitamins? They often contain soy...sometimes hidden, somethimes not. Any other supplements?

For a non-dairy probiotic, there are many. I like Natren's dairy free, and you could always go Custom Probiotics, but that's pricey. Natren's cultures their non-dairy on garbanzo beans.

What are you doing to heal YOUR gut? You are the one leaking the proteins, don't overlook your own health. He wouldn't be reacting if you weren't. You *could* still be consuming allergens either in foods or in supplements. Either way you need to take steps to healing.

As for healing my own gut, I've started taking a (dairy free) probiotic recently, too. What else should I be doing? I'm not too familiar with healing the gut. I don't feel like I have anything particularly wrong with me. I don't have any digestive issues (occasionally constipation, but not too bad).

I'll check the labels of my vitamins. I also take a flax oil supplement, but that's it.

Thanks again.
