How long should stitches hurt?

I am still quite achy in never-never-land. I had a second degree tear with stitches along with 2 small tears on the side and top without stitches. How long should I hurt?

I am starting to worry about possible infection.

Dean was born 11/06, I had an episiotomy and I tore on the other side sorta upwards inside (but not into bladder or rectum,, this time) the epi was 2nd degree the tear 3rd degree both stitched several layers... my point.. I am still pretty sore there...

my last two were BAD epis with bad lac a complete (DS1)and a big 3rd degree(DS2), this one is bad but not as bad.. 1st one I took a good 8 wks to heal and a full yr to not have pain and (honestly) it's never been the same.. the 2nd one tooka full six wks to heal and I still had lingering discomfort for another two weeks...

this time I am progressing faster but the fact that I tore upwards has been tough.. I guess my point is that it really does take a long time to heal and feel OK there.. have MW/doc take a look if you are worried you are not healing normally.. I'm sorry you are still so sore..

My delivery was the day before yours and I am just starting to feel better. I had one 2nd degree tear. If you don't have a fever or any drainage, it might just be part of the healing process. Have you taken a look at them? Are you taking anything for pain?

Caleb was born on the 5th and while my stitches don't hurt per se, my vagina is definitely *not* back to feeling normal! With Isaac (pushed for four hours, long labor) it took about 6-8 weeks to stop hurting and for the swelling to go away completely. I think there's really a wide variation on what's normal so if you're worried get it checked out by your HCP.
