Circ to fix Torsion?

A friend who had a preemie who was not circed (due to size) and is a single Mom is a friend of mine. She's not sure why she would do it but is getting a lot of pressure from her brother (who she also lives with) and her father (who lives nearby) so I offered to send her some info. I came on here and got a great bunch of links and sent her;

What was it that your ped said Hunter had? I'm so tired today I can't remember if it is like Travis' or something different? How did he say it might help/heal the problem? I guess my concern is that many Dr.s are unfamiliar (in the US) with a normal foreskin although 80 percent of the males in the world are not circed - there are so many "conditions" that have been disproven as normal parts of the process of growing up with intact genitals!

He has what is referred to as a torsion (sp?), where his penis is twisted slightly so that the line that goes up the center of his penis is twisted slightly, like a corkscrew. I have been told he has to wait to see a urologist when he is about 3 months old, and that sometimes circumcisions can help fix torsions. No decisions yet.... thanks for the info, and let's get together!

I'm so glad she's considering her options - but I can't find info on if it fixes torsions or if torsions are even a real problem? Anyone got a link or two to educate myself?

I dont see how that could be a problem really. There are so many variations of the penis it being a little crooked shouldnt matter. I know I have seen pics on the net of men with slightly croocked penies and they were not the least bit held back by it.

I cannot for the life of me see how circing him would correct the torsion since it is the penis that is crooked and not just the skin. Sounds like the dr is just pushing for circ.

It sounds like she's referring to the raphe line rather than a true torsion. It is perfectly normal for raphe lines to "wander" or be off-center on the foreskin and even on the shaft of the penis and this is no indication of torsion at all.

The doctor is in all likelihood just using a normal wandering raphe line as an excuse to pressure the mother into circumcision.

A few months back some one posted about a Dr who was so unfamiliar with what an intact penis looked like that he wanted to send the poster's DS to see a urologist simply b/c he had a raphe line and the Dr didn't know what it was.

Sometimes DS's looks like it's twisting one way, sometimes it seems to twist the other. I think that's just b/c sometimes his diaper is tighter on one side than the other.
