Issue with VB AIO pattern

Hi all... I recently made three AIO's (small) from the Very Baby pattern. The tabs aren't matching up... at first I thought it was me, since I hadn't sewn in a while... figured I was just out of practice... but now I realize that it's because you are supposed to cut the waterproof layer with the legs wider than the inner layers. It throws the whole rest of the dipe off, and I can't figure out how to sew it so this doesn't happen.

Does anyone else have experience with this pattern? I'm wondering if I should just cut all the layers the same. The dipes came out ok, just a little funkier than I would like... some extra fold in the PUL layer of the waist, etc.

Help!

Oh, one more question... can I use micro-fleece as the inner layer, that touches baby's skin or is it too waterproof?

I don't know about the pattern, havn't used that one. Microfleece is fine for an inner, it is thin enough that it isn't waterproof, it just wicks the pee right on thru.

Are you pinning? IME, you NEED to pin with that pattern if you are cutting the PUL wider in the crotch. line up all the edges and pin, pin, pin like crazy. Keep pinning until everything lines up perfectly.

However, if you are using microfleece as an inner, you can cut both layers the same, no problem.

PM coming your way too

Thanks! Looks like my diaper making is on hold for now, I think I'm going into labor

Good thing we already have our newborn stash!

I had problems making this pattern the way the instructions say to make, with the crotch cut wider on the pul. I make mine with microfleece inside and cut all the layers the same width it works just fine. I actually prefer the front opening pocket version of this pattern. If you would like to check it out go to sewdiapers.com; the instructions are there. They're great.

You should post your question over at the Very Baby forums. Those gals are very helpful, and you'll find people who are experienced with that pattern.

Congrats on the babe, hope it went well.

I found that for my first few VB AIO's it really helped to run a very long straight stitch along the leg edges of my inner layers and gather them up to match the length of the PUL leg. It makes for easier matching till you get the hang of stretching the PUL as you sew. A walking foot really helps if your machine has one.

Whoops, I just saw how old this was. Oh well, hope I helped some one...

congrats!

I never pin mine, but I do carefully line up each edge as I feed it through the machine. Then the sides match up even though one layer(pul) is larger.

I use huge paper clips to line up my edges. Yes, it will be a little strange since they are not cut the same, but the pul needs to curl inside. It works in the long run.

Second that on the pinning...the pin holes will all disappear once you wash and dry on hot.
