I have very blonde hair and every time I get the roots done I'm always horrified at the 'brightness' of it. . . Then I get used to it and it's o.k. . Trust me your hair is great. Give it a few days. You suit it and I love your cut.

Seriously! It is not bad at all. I think you are going to quite like it in a couple of days.

I dyed my hair a couple of weeks ago and HATED it for the first 4-5 days because it was just too dark.

But then it turned into the really rich gorgeous brown that I wanted in the first place.

Give it some time - besides having never seen your hair any differently - it doesn't look strange at all. It looks nice.

Actually, I kind of like it. I've noticed, too, that hair dye tends to fade within a couple of weeks.

i think it looks good.

I'm with the "give it a few days" camp. Really, I do think it looks nice on you. But, I also know what a bummer it is to glance in the mirror and get a shock because you don't look like yourself.

In it's natural state, my hair is medium to dark brown with a whole lot of grey mixed in. My hair is curly and dry, so to save on damage, I only get my whole head dyed about every 8 months. This means that for 8 months, my hair fades lighter and lighter and just the roots get touched up. Then, bam, it is dark again. And, I dislike it for the first week because it just seems SO dark. I startle myself in the mirror.

Honestly, I really do think it looks good on you! Give yourself a week or two and then reassess. I also second a pp about make-up (if you are a make-up wearer). I wear minimal make-up usually, but I find that my darker hair seems more balanced during that first week after a dye job if I wear a bit more lipstick and such.

give it a week or so. if you still hate it, go see a professional

First of all, I like it. I tend to HATE any major changes to my hair (or my teenaged children's hair) the first week or so before I can look at it objectively.

That said, dd did NOT like her black hair and we went through a year of hell trying to bleach it, strip it, fix it in some way or another. The best we ever came up with was some very heavy duty and damaging bleach covered up with Manic Panic purple. Finally, she just had to endure the Big Chop--and believe me, I cried; she had gorgeous waist-length curls that were so damaged by then that we had to go all the way up to mid chin-length and we're still chopping away, an inch at a time, to try to go back to her natural colour and have, once again, given up on any sort of "normal" colour during the growing out process.

She did find a nice shade of dye that blended in well with the natural colour at her roots, but then she got a job working outside and the dyed sections were sunbleached almost white.

When I decided I didn't want to deal with colouring my hair any more after dd was born, I made one attempt to dye it back to my natural colour (and I didn't even know what that WAS at that point!) that was such a disaster that it turned out Bozo the Clown/ Raggedy Ann red instead of the simple, conservative brown on the box, and then I just gave up. I didn't cut it, I just let it grow out naturally, complete with dye line, and thought about what a cute baby I had instead of what yucky hair I had.

My advice would be to enjoy the black while it's there and then go for those monthly trims and maybe cover up with Manic Panic until your natural colour is at a length you can live with.

I Really Like It!

but sine you hate it...

you can go to Walgreens or Sallys and get a "striper" for it. it worked really well for me when i dyed my hair really really dark.

good luck let us know how it goes.

I really like it!!!!!!! But i loved my hair when it was blue black, so i am biased...lol

I like it too! If you can't change it, at least your hair isn't miles long and it wont take as long to grow it out. You could always experiment with wearing funky hats and bandanas and stuff. I like my hair but its curly and I hardly ever let it dry nice so it looks good. I'm almost always wearing something to cover it and you can get pretty creative!
