Dave Ramsey alternatives

OK, so if you don't like Dave Ramsey or if you've pretty much got your financial house in order (little or only mortgage debt), who DO you like?

I've got less than $4500 remaining on my only debt - my car loan. Need to build up savings, but that's it, aside from paying off the car. Put 10% into my 401K and have $30K in a traditional IRA rolled over from a previous job's 401K.

Current city is too expensive to EVER buy a condo/house (in a safe neighborhood) on what I make ($40K), so I'm probably a life-long renter, unless I got married. But that's OK with me.

Educate yourself with various and reliable sources, then be your OWN financial guru. There isn't one "person" (author, TV or radio personality, etc.) that fits anyone. Your best source is yourself... armed with solid financial information, a realization of your spending habits, your financial needs, and what fits your current financial situation along with a keen understanding that society urges us to spend. The "alternative" is simply a more-informed *you*.

(I don't mean "you" as in you, Tradd, but the general public)

JMHO: Empower yourself to take charge of your finances. As with everything else, knowledge is power.

I really enjoyed David Bach's "The Automatic Millionaire" and "Smart Women Finish Rich". While he has some chapters on debt reduction, overall he focuses on personal finance and building wealth. I find these books to be very inspiring. I have now automated all of my savings and it is quickly building up.

we did the Good Sense Ministry with our church small group this past spring

I LOVED IT!and are close to being out of credit debt (only took 6 months to pay off 5000!) and then we will work on the car and then house!

It is kind of similar to Dave Ramsey...pay cash for everything...but they don't seem to be so harsh about credit card usuage ..

: So right! Not the easiest solution, but the best indeed.
