Okay so in my city they give everyone a nifty blue bin to put recyclables in, and every other week they pick it up. They use a seperate truck and it normally comes a few hours after regular pick up comes.
We live on a dead end street, and when we moved here we realized that they never pick up our things to recycle. So of course I called the city and told them. They said oh, they forgot, etc, no worries, we will not forget your street next week.
They did. I called again. And again. Now I understand that we live on a dead end street and yes, it is hard for the trash truck to turn around.. but what is their point? They have to do it to get our regular trash, so it should not be a big deal on recycling day. They still never came.. Eventually I gave up and DH started taking our bag to his parent's house to put in their bin. Because he goes once a week to visit I did not think it was too much of a hassel. At least our things get recycled.
Now DH has noticed that our neighbors are just throwing their cans and papers, etc, in their regular trash. So our city is missing out on a whole street of people who might otherwise recycle, because apparantly we are the only ones who make the extra effort to get our things taken in. Not that I am blaming my neighbors for not going to the recycling center or taking their things to a relative's house, I am not, because people by nature are sometimes lazy. I feel that it is the cities responsibility to keep up their end of the deal by picking up the blue bins every other week.
So what do you think our next step would be? Calling the trash pick up is obviously not going to work. Who should I call next? I am determined to get recycling pick up on our street!
