I need idea's to get labor to progress

Since Wednesday I have been having contractions that started 4-5 minutes apart. They slowed down that night and yesterday. Today they are back to 5 minutes apart. The pain is low under my belly and then some radiate to my back and down my legs. They are not getting any closer together.

I am vbac'ing with an OB. They wanted me in Wednesday for an NST and AFI. I didn't go since I thought I would be giving birth that night. I have agree'd to go into Labor & Delivery to check on the baby tomorrow. I will be 41 weeks tomorrow. If baby is doing well with contractions (which I think she is) then I will leave the hospital even if I have to sign myself out. I would rather progress before then.

Any suggestions that you guys may have will be appreciated.

Thank you!

My VBAC was over fifty hours I vote for staying OUT of the hospital because it's a lot easier to walk in than out once they start in on you. If you feel fine, stay home, only go in to push your baby out. A hospital is unlikely to support you to just mellow out and labour in your own time. A lot of women who've had previous surgery have long lead ups to active labour and obviously this is what they need in that birth at that time. You're on track, don't mess with it Have a beautiful birth

What you are experiencing is likely a normal variation of early labor--prodromal labor. I also suggest that, if you feel the baby moving (kick counts aren't a bad thing) and you'd rather labor out of the hospital, going in is a lot easier than leaving.

You could try really hard to get labor going, but if your body and your baby need this to go slowly, it may just continue along that vein, and then you'll be tired, to boot!

Things like sex, walks, nursing a youngish baby or using a breast pump COULD help labor along...but again, this is likely what your body and your baby need to do right now, and messing with that may give you unwanted results.

I really am trying to relax and not stress out. I HAVE to go have a labor check to stay in good graces with my OB. He called me from out of town to make sure that I was going to go to just get a strip done on the monitor to check on the baby. He has seemed very supportive up until now so I don't want to piss him off. I have any appt with him on Monday and I really feel that he may stop being supportive if I don't go in and get the baby checked. DH is on my side that I will sign out AMA if they want to keep me at the hospital (as long as baby looks good).

It is so hard going past your due date mentally, the medical profession should really be nicer. My OB has been nice but one of his nurses has been nothing but rude.

Oh well, Baby will come when she is ready. Trying to stay positive and in good spirits.

Caullophyllum is a good homeopathic remedy to get labour going. Pulsatilla is another good one. You can find them at most health food stores.

Good luck! I know it's easier said than done but try to relax

Isn't he probably going to stop being supportive anyway after 41 weeks? I tend to agree, stay out of the hospital. Don't make potentially hazardous decisions to avoid upsetting your OB. It's your baby, your birth.
