Hello all.....
This morning I happened to be browsing through the
Chicco website. Chicco makes all kinds of baby
products, from clothes to gear to toys and many other
things. I see their logo all over the market, and
actually I see them a lot out of mainstream things and
it more "natural" homes and stores.
I was very concerned/confused when I went to their
site. They have it separated into different age
categories, and I had basically ignored the section
that is 5+ months and the 0+ months sections.
When I scrolled across the 5 month section, what
popped up was the word WEANING. Naturally, I had to
see what they were saying.....this is what their
heading for the WHOLE ENTIRE 5+ month area says (this
is selling strollers and stuff, for maude's sake)
WEANING: Dedicated to the child starting from weaning.
Weaning. Creating distance from the reassurance of the
mother's breast is a vital stage in the development of
a child.
I realize that this goes right along with mainstream
norms and ideas, but it was still disturbing to me
that a company selling products as it does would be
using that as their whole scheme for that age group.
So, I had to check out the 0+ section to see what they
say there, and there is no mention until you go to the
eating section. And then there is where the confusion
comes it, because they are totally PRO breastfeeding!
They have a whole nursing section, complete with total
nude breastfeeding pics that are great! The heading:
Nursing: Breastfeeding is not just a question of
nutrition but also an emotional bond.
Always ready, warm, naturally sterile, economical,
nutritious, easy to digest and rich in antibodies -
mother's milk is best!
Then they have a heading that sells BF supplies, and
then they have a heading that sells bottle feeding
supplies. I suppose they change their tune because
they wouldn't be selling their bottle feeding supplies
very well if they promoted WHO guidelines for
breastfeeing, maude forbid.
Check it out for yourself: Chicco Website
