Shot elastic. Any way to fix?

It took a lot longer to conceive #2 than we expected. I pulled her old nb/sm dipes out today and found that in many the elastic has gone. Other than that they are in great shape. #1 only wore them for 5-6 weeks.

There are some fitteds (kissaluv and similar) and some pocket dipes (FB's).

Is there anything I can do other than turn them over to my almost 4 year old for her dolls?

Congratulations!

There are a couple of ways you can fix the elastic. The FBs are pretty easy to repair. You can take out the casing stitches, unpick the elastic that is sewn to the seam allowance, then sew in new elastic and re-sew the casing. Or easier but not quite as pretty, cut a tiny slit at the end of each casing, run new elastic through the casing to gather up the legs, then tack down each end of the elastic and close up the holes by zig-zagging on the ends.

For the Kissaluvs, it would probably be easiest to sew new elastic to the outside of the diaper. Sometimes you can also do the second trick I mentioned for the FBs, running new elastic next to the old elastic.

Good luck!
