No more raw milk....

What can I do????:

Last week at our pick up our farmer announced that he is getting out of farming. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find another source of raw milk, but I still want us to be getting the benefits of raw animal foods.

If you can't get raw milk, how do you make up for it for your family???

According to NT in the Raw Meat Appetizer section raw meat provides the same health benefits as raw milk. I haven't experimented too much with it myself but I have made ceviche and had carpaccio. I was just reading that section a few minutes ago myself and determined to try some more raw meat and fish dishes.

In the same situation I would also continue to consume yogurt (and kefir if you like it, which I don't yet), cheese and cultured pasturized butter as the culturing puts good bacteria back in after pasturization has taken it out.

There's 3 or 4 months over winter where we can't get any raw milk at all so for us no raw dairy is a seasonal adjustment. However there is only one place I can get it from so I am only ever one step away from no raw dairy.

In the winter, I make a massive pot of bone broth at the start of each week & put it in everything I can get away with. We have soup for lunch every day& I have even made pumpkin pie using bone broth as the liquid. I also do stuff like cook potatoes for mashed potatoes in broth & cook pasta with it as well. We still have some cheeses, butter & organic cultured cream- if I can get it. Traditionally, fresh dairy & eggs were not available in the winter & in alot of places in northern europe I doubt alot of fresh veges were either. Following that logic, I render lots of lard from pastured pork fat & we also have more lactofermented veges. There's a type of seaweed which grows near us which was collected traditionally in the autumn so we snack on that as well.

Can you stockpile a lot of raw milk in your freezer while you're figuring out what to do next?
