I know some of us were planning on tandem nursing and just wondering what experiences others have had so far. Are you limiting your older nurslng and how are they responding to that if you are? Do you forget which breast to offer the older one? How do you decide which child gets which breast? Are you nursing both of them together or one at a time?
DD is delighted at the return of milk and would nurse 15 times a day if I let her. So far she nurses in the morning when she wakes up, at nap time (or theoretical nap time - I'm not all that successful at getting her to nap), sometimes when she wakes from nap, and at bath/bed time. I try to let her go for at least a couple of minutes but I always have to tell her the boob is going to have a rest and count to three to get her off - she hasn't come off on her own voluntarily.
I try to offer her the 'empty' breast - the one that the baby most recently had. However, sometimes I can't tell which one that is.
I usually nurse them separately except at bed time. But I can only do it sitting up, with DS in the cradle hold and DD just figuring it our for herself. No way could I lay down and nurse both - my breasts just don't move that far. I tried nursing them both in the bathtub the other night cause DS was fussy during bathtime (he was in his bouncy chair) and he pooped all over the place so that was not a great success.
I guess overall it's going fine. I do sometimes feel like I spend all day nursing someone, but I do like it when they're both nursing and I can cuddle both heads and check out the size difference.
Oh, and I've noticed that DD is really cutting back on solids, but that doesn't surprise me.
