Pregnant and want a homebirth - dh doesn't - Page 2

I can definitely relate!

I am also a pregnant labor doula and have a husband who was unsure about homebirth. I think it's not so much that he changed his mind after we got the BFP, but instead of being a dream, it became a reality. We now had to come up with the money sooner than later. Especially if your family is already in a place where money is tight I can see how a virtually free hospital birth can look so enticing to him. Many previous posters also suggested bartering for all/part of the payment that insurance won't cover. I think that is a real option you should explore. Heck, it may even bring some referrals into your massage business to help it grow!

I also realized in talking with him that it wasn't realyly his dream to have a homebirth, it was mine. My dream for homebirth is rooted in how different my part will look, feel and be. Whereas his love, caring and support role will pretty much be the same in both settings. I think watching a few birth videos has helped him more than any printed information. They allowed him to see/hear the differences between the hospital setting and the home setting.

From what you have peviously posted, it doesn't sound like he needs to be convinced of the safety of homebirth. Unless, he's using the money issue as a cover his real unspoken fear. But, if he needs to know more about homebirth safety, annakiss has developed a resource list here on MDC. Look for "Homebirth Safety Resources" under Pregnancy and Birth> Birth and Beyond>Homebirth. I haven't looked at all of the info, but definitely take a look for yourself. You can always do a google search for homebirth safety too.

Best of luck to you and your family in making this decision. I know it can be a hard one!

Thank you so much!!!!! I really appreciate it and will look for that post to see if there is anything that will help. I think my dh knows it is safe, but is still a little scared.

Anyhow, thanks so much for the lead on a direction to at least start.

I might also explore bartering, but will admit I am hesitant only because with how sick I get when I am pregnant (the whole pregnancy) I am afraid to commit to something and then have to struggle to fulfill it. Of course, I am hoping this pregnancy will be different and I won't be so sick
