where did you buy your spice jars?

I'm in dire need...for years our spices and herbs (all extremely precious commodities ) have been sitting in plastic bags.
yucko.

and now NOW it's time to buy the proper storage, but I don't know where to start....what kind of lids? stainless steel? glass? 3 oz? 1.87 oz? also looking for something more organic and earthen than modern and shiny....but spice jars are spice jars tra la la la

you get the idea....looking for the best bang for the buck, too...some that I've found are pretty darn pricey (except for ikea..and...ehhh)

TIA

have you looked at the container store?

eta: I've used these when I've bought spices in bulk

a good hardware store will sometimes have them in the canning/kitchen section.

I really love these...I use them for spices, paper clips, you name it.

Our spice jars are all thrifted small class containers or re-used small glass containers, but collecting them takes time, so if you need to get them all at once, that might not be an option.

I buy my spices at The Spice House. You can buy jars individually as well.

If you have an Ikea near you they sell several different small jars you could use for spices. I just got some of these:

4 jars for $2.99

I have this style jar in a larger size and it's nice too:

Careful washing those Ikea jars--we had some of those and the paint on the tops chips off really really easily.

Penzey's has a wide variety available, and they seem to be a good price-value ratio:

I just bought 4 oz. Mason Jars to replace all of my spices (I've had most of my spices so long that they no longer "spice" anything). The jars were inexpensive and the perfect size.

I also have glass spice jars with glass tops (and a little piece of plastic around the stopper to make a seal) that have come from thrift stores, antique store, or garage sales over the years.

Last year I got lucky and found a whole rack with all the jars. I didn't need or keep the rack, but I was able to get I think a dozen jars at once for just a few dollars.

I do also use the 4oz canning jars to store lots of bits of things.

Ours are in a combination of thrifted/inherited jars and little Ikea sets. I would just start with a few and build up your collection over time. I put ours on a 2-tier lazy Susan type thing and it doesn't matter that there are several different styles jostling together - being on a turntable sort of unifies them. When I had the kitchen wall space I enjoyed having everything hung in a rack but it limited the size of jars I could use.

My FIL also has these and he loves them. I like how you can see in them to know what is in there.
