Do you have your clients purchase a birthkit?

I'm full of questions tonight.

Do you have your clients purchase a birthkit? If so, how much do your clients pay for it? And what does it include?

Or do you just have them pick up chux and sanitary pads at the local drug store? Do you supply the peri bottles, etc?

Yup - my birth kit is about $28 and I have the parents get it around 36 weeks. It has 2 sizes of chux, gloves, sterilization pouches for my instruments, OB sanitary pads, disposable panties, footprint kit, 2 peri-bottles, sterile gauze, paper tape measurer, lubrication, and alcohol pads. I get it through in his hands. If they cant afford one - I do have enough left overs from births where I have full extra's that can be used .. or if they give birth before they get their birth kit in etc..

Yes, from Jack at In His Hands... you probably already know this, lol. There are a couple options but it's nice b/c he stores your personal kit.

Yes, but just a few things--they have to supply chux, a cord clamp (I like the sterifeed cordring), some sterile gloves and sterile lube, a peribottle (but they can just clean and reuse a dishsoap bottle or something), some alcohol preps and gauze 4x4s. Everything else on the supply list they either already have, or can purchase locally (I recommend thrift stores for things like extra towels/sheets). I think the family needs to have their own disposable or one-use things (like cord clamp)...tho of course I keep plenty of gloves, lube and other extras on hand in case we need more than they buy. Some births, I hardly use any gloves, some I use several...same for some of the other disposable/one use items.

Yes, I have mine through Everything Birth - and she sends me a free kit for every five that my clients buy, so it's nice for those that can't afford a kit.

All of the things in my kit (aside from the sterile gloves, which I have plenty of, and mesh underwear) can be bought for a decent price in drugstores.
