Anyone else already considering names?

I barely finished POAS, and I was starting to think about names!!!:

I love the idea of naming after family, but we don't have many options...and the one I DO love, is way too popular (Jacob/Jakob).

...already starting a list of possibilities...

anyone else starting their list? what considerations are you keeping in mind?

We had our b & g names picked out before we even started TTC. Actually, we're prepared for several kids to come, of either gender. I'm kinda name obsessed, and dragged DH along for the ride--he was a pretty good sport. I know it's probably silly, but they're top secret for now! Our kids' first names will be Korean (DH's parents are Korean), and middle names will be the "American" names that they will probably usually go by--those names will reflect part of my heritage, and also DH & my values. We are both major lovers of the outdoors, both strong environmentalists, subsitence gardeners, and lovers of old-time skills and traditions, so we have picked old-fashioned names with botanical/nature meanings.

I made the lists, and DH gave it his yea or nay, mostly based upon how it sounded to him and any positive or negative associations he had with it. Let's just say he probably wouldn't have put the effort into coming up with the lists himself, but I think he's glad I did.

Yah when DH and I planned our first together we had the name all picked out for boy/girl, once Tristan was born we knew we would be having at least one more and so for the last 2 1/2 years we've had the names for this child picked out, EXCEPT I've just recently changed my mind about the girl name

It was the girl name we had chosen for Tristan if he was a girl (Tia) so after almost 3 1/2 years I decided I wanted to go with a different name.

Girl = Jovie (something)
Boy = Lucian or Lucien (something)

Not sure at all about the spelling of the boy name I have to look at it some more and play with it.

I don't know many ppl IRL who let others know the name they have chosen prior to the birth...no one likes to be judged.

Although, I know someone who said that you have to let ppl know ASAP so that you can 'reserve' the name

we have started a brand new list for this babe! Kind of interesting how DH and I can feel quite strongly about *very* different names. I'm definitely not into the top 100...

oh well, we do have some time left, right!

We have a girl's name already, but no idea about a boy's name. We had a hard time picking out a name for Henry, so I can't even imagine we'll agree on a boy's name for this one any time soon.

I have a girls name, but I am not sure how to spell it yet. It is pronounced "I-lee"

I really want it to start with an A. The Aileen I know is with an A.

I like a few ethnic names, from India and Spain, but my girls have VERY american names. Idont want baby's name to stick out like a sore thumb.

This morning i was looking at something and saw the name Wynter and I love it!!!! hubby looked at me the same way he did when i suggested Stormy a few months back LOL

I really get a kick out of the name debate There really aren't any unique names anymore & those that are are uh... well... unique for a reason, if you know what I mean... : I mean, we just don't see Alouicious anymore, you know?


We'll probably decide on a name after we know the gender. I like sharing our name possibilities with my family. They help me stay grounded! Like when I wanted to name our daughter Laurance but didn't want people to pronounce it "Lawrence" : We have a lot of fun with possibilities. "Creative" names are a running joke in our family... & by "Creative" I mean ridiculous. Last pregnancy my favourite suggestion was "Saran" (our last name is Rapp... get it? Saran Rapp?)


Sarah: I like Ailee! That is SUCH a cute name!! Wouldn't Aile be prounounced "Isle?"

I have been thinking about names since I was ten! We named our first baby Clare becasue we were in COunty Clare, Ireland (honeymoon!) when we found out she was coming. DH really picked it though. We use two middle names.
For this one, I just can't decide to keep up with the Irish tradition and use something like Cieran, Seamus, or Eamon for a boy, or Eilis, Deirdre, or Fiona for a girl or to go with the names I REALLY like such as Eleanor and Margaret and THomas and Henry. Hum...

I just had to chime in... I lived in Ireland for 2.5 mths (it was wondeful) and I love the name Seamus BUT my husband vetoed it already. Without knowing the name he pronounced it seee-musss and then the joke "semen" came to mind:. And I know if he would think it then so would someone else.

Just like the name Trine (Pronounced Treen, with a rolled r) it is Danish. When I told my mom I liked that name she said "please don't name your little girl that, they will be forever made fun of and called latrine".

EmilyS--I think you should go with the names you love--all of them would go perfectly well with Clare, and hey, you're still sticking with names from the British Isles! And, I think you'd find plenty of people in Ireland with names from your second list--especially Margaret (very Irish), if it's a girl.

DoulaSarah, how about Aily or Ailey? I think the name might read more easily if you avoid the "ili" combination.

We're thinking about Avery for a girl, but I don't know if that's too trendy.

I absolutely don't want any Y's in the name. I am not a Y person, unless it were something like Avery, in which case it looks great.

I am really leaning towards Aile, or Ailee.

What do you all think of the name Leoj for a boy?

DoulaSarah, of your spellings I like Ailie the most. I like the *look* of Aile a bit better, but I don't think almost anyone would read that as eye-lee--more like ail/ale. I think Ailie looks nice, and will give you a good chance of strangers seeing the pronunciation you want. I agree that starting it with an A is prettiest, and I don't like any of the choices with -ee, because it looks *too* phonetic to me, like Kandee or Sandee or something. FWIW.

I joke that when I got married, I finally wrote down the list of names that had been in my head. We have 2 top contenders for a girl, leftover from last time, and a whole list if it's another boy.... the funny thing is, with boys at least, the name that *feels* best, and right, and most appropriate, isn't necessarily the name I like the most. I mean, it's a nice name, it honors a family member on each side, and works well in a couple of languages, and fits in with my ds's name, and sounds good with his middle name (my last name) and his last name (my dh's). But it's not actually my favorite boy's name or nearly. I felt the same way about my ds - it was the 'right' name, and I'm glad we chose it, but i don't like it otherwise.

Anybody else feel this way?

Oh I GOT names, ! Had 'em looong before we were ttc. The winners are:

Boy: Elliott Alfred C. -We both loved Elliott instantly and Alfred is my dad's name, it was a requirement for me that it be my first son's middle name. He's a good, good man.

Girl: Scarlett Aziza C.- A compromise. I LOVE Scarlett, red in my favorite color, it was a recognizable, fairly uncommon (accept on MDC)name with a normal, non-creative spelling. DH likes it just enough for me to get away with it. I said if he was okay with Scarlett he could choose her middle name and make it whatever he desired. He loves ethnic names, unusual names with kreeativ spellings. I truly do love his choice though.

we've been discussing names since before we started ttc...right now we feel pretty confident about a name for a girl-Naima Constance...Naima (pronounced nye-ee-mah) means contented in Arabic and Constance is my mother's name. Boys names are much more difficult...we had been considering Miles until dp found out that it means soldier...also dp has this insane rule that we can't give babe a name that anyone else in the family has (b/c he does not want anyone to think the babe is named after anyone specific)...makes it difficult since I love James, and he has an uncle James. I am trying to convince him that we could name the babe Jamie, not James. Another boy's name we are considering is Kavi, which means poet in Sanskrit. So, that is where we are.
