Sensitive, emotional dd is driving me nuts

My 6 yr old dd finds things to get upset about left and right.

Why do I have to clean up? It's not fair!

You don't like anything I do! Everything I do is wrong! You hate me!

It seems like her feelings are hurt left and right, and it seems as though she is lacking empathy and excessively self-centered. I feel like I'm walking on egg shells with her.

Is this normal? Is it a phase? Or is she really highly sensitive?

my DD is emotional also, sometimes its way worse than others. one factor i have found is lack of sleep. she needs lots of it.

DD is 5.5--very much like this. she doesn't lack empathy, as whenever her brother is upset, or another baby--she is right there to help. but for this she has to be in her "normal" state. most of the time, however, she is in the "the world is ending" stage.

it is very difficult to make sure she sleeps more. she is never tired. when she is tired she fights sleep.

with DD--and i realise it now--she's always been like this, so i don't think that for her it is a stage . i only hope that she learns to be more in control of her emotions as she matures....
