Found the perfect gift for DD1, but it is the opposite of what I want...

DD loves pink, loves Barbie (even though I don't like them at ALL), loves the guitar...

I want something that she can play the strings and also makes music. I know at almost 5 she would get bored with a real guitar since she would not know how to play and I can't teach her. Lessons could start in the summer at the earliest, but I am hesitant to have a 5o in lessons...

What should I do? Any alternatives? I have yet to find anything else

I differ from many but Character things as long as it doesn't get obsessive or just a result of media pressure. We don't do a lot of licenced stuff but there are the handfull of stuff if you think she will love the gift because it is a gutair and she likes pink than hey go for it shes can have lots of fun with it. If you think OH shes really into barbie and thats all that she will like I'd maybe think twice and decide if its worth the one hit wonder factor for the price.
Also depending on where you stand with MIC stuff might make a diffrence you can alos get child gurtairs that are not barbie..

I worry about MIC because of DD2, and also I worry about wear and tear. Our luck with character things is bad...especially when DD2 gets into it.
