Darn it. I knew that my groceries were going to be expensive, but I didn't realize that I'd blow over half my budgeted amount for the month. And then I figured I'd spent so much money that a stopping at Starbucks and spending a couple bucks more for hot chocolate wouldn't be a big deal. Le sigh.

Hi Everyone. I have peeked in on some of your other threads and I really do need your help. I am terrible with my finances, and dont really make a budget, even. You have inspired me to start getting a grip on things.
I am a SAHM. My DH does odd jobs landscaping and such. We are looking into a new bizness idea. I may pick up some work just for the holidays. We have alot of new legal fees coming up starting this month, and with the holidays, bills, etc. there really is no room to spend much, so I want to come here for support to keep me from spending too much.

I dont want to spend in Dec. b/c
1. up the butt legal fees we need to spend on instead
2. I already have enough stuff to get through the holidays, aside from a little more food
3. I want to be able to pay off my last credit card next month and pay down some store cards.
4. B/C I just dont need that!!

My plan for not spending is to
1. stay home
2. do only free get togethers for the kids
3. carpool
4. eat at home
5. make more handmade gifts
6. rely on discount grocery store first
7. keep doing more trades for things instead of buying
8. sell some things online
9. combine errands on days out
10. trade babysitting w/ other moms so I can get things done
11. find a date activity for DH and I to do that is cheap or free, while MIL is here for the holidays and can babysit.
12. Find more ways to cut energy costs in our home

12/7 $28 pizza, kids museum admission, and postage for package
12/8 no spend
12/9 $104.01 on groceries and cleaners, $$16.26 McD's for Dh and I=120.27
12/10 $23.20 on groceries, $35 on christmas tree= $58.20

Groceries=$127.21

Thursday was good, another no spend. Yesterday, I had a manicure that my friend gave me a gift certificate for (what a waste, it lasted less than an hour, but my cuticles look good ) and got a haircut (in budget) and we went to my dh's work christmas party (free crab legs for dinner ) and we got them fast food on the way to their aunt's house cause they were starving and couldn't wait for the 45 minute drive and another half hour to cook the frozen pizza I planned for them (I'm the epitome of healthful eating apparently
Today, no plans to go out... just staying home, cleaning house and we have a friend coming for dinner, but I have everything we need for that. (I hope!) I will report in tonight with the results.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dec 1 + no drive
Dec 2 costco, gifts and groceries; new winter coat
Dec 3 car maintenance, xmas spending, household, all in budget
Dec 4 groceries, gas unnecessary groceries
Dec 5 lunch with DD, xmas gift, book
Dec 6
Dec 7 haircut, fast food dinner for the girls
Key: no spend spending in budget unplanned, unbudgeted, or unwise
No Spend Days 2/12
Fill gas and grocery shop only once a week 1/2
Only one stock up shop at Costco 1/1
Personal discretionary spending $ 0/50
Oh man, I went and wasted the rest of my misc. budget on a pair of jeans and they don't even fit! They are my favorite jeans in the same size I always wear with the same number on them and everything, but they are a different size. I don't want to have to drive back there to return them, but I guess I will. Now we are ruining the food budget too. DH just went to the foodstore and spent $68. Oh... we seemed to be doing so well.
1st $30 gas; $25 thrift store
2nd $152 food (this should last for two weeks -- 12/16)
3rd
4th
5th $43 gas; $13 gifts for dc
6th $45 food; $8 eating out
7th
8th : $31 gas; $15 jeans; $68 food (mostly junk)
I will NOT patronize any fast food places!
I will NOT patronize any big box stores except Home Depot if necessary.
GOALS:
Food from the grocery store: $265/$500
gas: $104/$200
races (DH and me): $0/$50 (I might use mine toward yoga though)
Christmas: $13/$150
Misc.: $48/$50 (DH has the same amount)
8/31 NO FAST FOOD! 8/31 NO BIG BOX STORES!
KEY: : True no spend Spending within budget : Spending outside budget
