1. Please introduce yourself and tell us anything you think it would help us to know about yourself.

I'm Kat, I'm 30yo, and I'm a SAHM to 3. Expecting our 4th in February. This is my first time trying this out.

2. Please tell us why you have decided to spend nothing (or spend significantly less) for the Month of December. Memorize these goals and recite them to yourself before all purchases.

Budgeting has become a bit more important since we moved. Instead of dh making money everyday, he flys to FL to work once a month. When the money runs out, it's GONE until he comes home again. It's taking some getting used to!

3. No spending is hard work. You need a plan. Please tell us your game plan -- how do you plan to approach no spending for a month?

My bills are paid for December and rent is paid for January, so that's a PLUS! But it's DECEMBER and we've got family coming & outings planned, so I can't really commit to NOT spending very much, but I can commit to spending within a budget. Hopefully, I've thought of everything!
What do I NEED to spend money on this month~4 more Mondays in December so $50 a week for Gas($200), $150 week for Groceries($600) Christmas gifts for family including shipping($160) Kids Stocking Stuffers($60) Special dinner out with DH preplanned($200) Christmas Dinner($200) Dianne($50) Niece&Nephew birthday presents~ borders GC($40) DH's Presents($150) My Presents($200) Ticket to Burbank($400) Other Christmas($100)Misc($100)

Well, more spending today. We bought a Christmas tree but that's covered under the "Gifts/Holiday" budget. We're pretty pleased because it's a nice tree, the lot was only a few blocks away, and it was only $40. We usually end up spending a LOT more.

I also transferred money over to the credit card to pay for the Christmas cards I ordered from Winkflash. Pricey but I have fun sending them out and they're also covered by the "Gifts/Holiday" budget.

We then splurged and got take-out for $25...not really in the budget. And you know what? Totally not worth it. We haven't gotten take-out in months and I just don't miss it.

On the other hand, I was thinking DS needed some new pajamas as his are getting a bit small. I dug through the box of too-big clothes and found a pair of Carter's fleece dinosaur PJ's in a 4T that are just loose enough for him to wear a pair of cotton PJ's underneath (essential for Wisconsin). Yay!

Iris and I went Christmas shopping and we had SO much fun! She's at a really fun age where I really enjoy shopping with her instead of wanting to pull my hair out because she won't listen to me. We only bought things on our list but were gone for so long we stopped for tacos (me) and rice and beans (her). I was supposed to sell something for $20 off of Craigslist but was stood up. Grrr.

Had a great weekend, my grandparents gave me a bunch of stuff I needed that they had and weren't using. God I love those people.

Dec. 1-... I moved today so I had to get food (I had none) and stuff for the apartment that I didn't already own
Dec. 2-... stayed in all day unpacking/cleaning
Dec. 3-... paid for moving truck and monthly loan payment
Dec. 4-:... paid for apartment stuff to be setup and some apartment supplies at Giant Tiger which was all part of the budget, but then I bought myself a coffee, which wasn't necessary, so even though it wasn't much, I'm giving myself an irked face
Dec. 5-:... had to take a cab downtown to my meeting and then home because I couldn't carry the carseat to where I was going after... but it wasn't in the budget (I was supposed to have a ride and they cancelled ) I bought tofu while I was there for suppers, it was on sale
Dec. 6-... I was out today but didn't have any temptation to spend. I simply reminded myself there is No wiggle room right now...

Went grocery shopping today and did pretty good, I think. I hate this wheat-free diet. I bought wheat-free noodles for $3.79 a bag Ugh. I know that we could just stay away from pasta all together, but it's the one thing my DD and I enjoy still eating. No bread, crackers, etc etc, but we get pasta, gosh darn it!

I can't believe I'm nearly out of blow funds for the month - last month I had money left, from the same budget!!! We are buying a few extra things though since we're going to have to make a trip up to family in oklahoma, and it's a lot colder there than it is in south texas. Thus the socks for DD & the new bra for me.

Have been re-reading Dave Ramsey (TMM) this past week, and finding inspiration to attack the debt snowball with something approaching gazelle-like intensity. The idea of putting $ toward debt is much more appealing right now than spending on frivolous items; just have to remember this mindset, as I tend to start the month pretty strong and then struggle toward the end (when budget items are maxed, but spending does not stop). Trying to keep a visual in mind of how we will feel after completing all of the baby steps, and that feeling trumps anything money can buy right now!

GOALS:
* Less than $100 in frivolous spending: month to date $0
* At least 25 days (no spend or spending w/in budget): 9/25
* Avoid Target: 9/31
* Pack snacks/water for outings: 9/31
* NO library fines: month to date $0
* Stay within grocery budget: $0/$430
