We just did Christmas shopping for our four year old twin boys this weekend. We got:

Stethescopes
Wooden puzzles
Melissa & Doug chalkboard/dry erase board and a set of magnetic numbers and letters because both sides are magnetic.
Flashlight
Playmobil take along dollhouse (Santa request from one)
Plan deluxe roadway set (Santa request from one)
Broom/dustpan
Aprons with their name on it (they like to bake and help me cook)

What's your budget? Some winners for us:
-- Playmobil. We're doing a castle/dragon/knights for Christmas, but he even loves the $3 deep sea diver.
--Automoblox
--Magnatiles
-- Sleeping bag, rolling suitcase, pop-up tent
-- Grandparents are splurging on a Fagus truck (I can't wait to see it):

-- a big playsilk for building forts

Happy shopping!

p.s. Oh, books and stories on CD are also hugely popular with our son.

We got the Automoblox mini's for ds for christmas. I'm looking forward to playing with them myself.

Board games are a favorite around here. Some of our favorites:

Varialand
What's in Ned's Head
Snail's Pace Race
Orchard
Lucky Sock

Thanks everyone. We have many of your suggestions already but I'll check out some of those ideas. No real budget, wanted to spend about $100 or so, need a "big" gift from Santa...

Keep 'em comin'!

Another quick idea -- my son is crazy about his personalized cape. I got it from etsy.com (superflykidz), and I know there's an MDC momma who makes them (maybe "panjo capes"?).

Have fun browsing!

If you can believe it, I bought my grandson a toy kitchen set last year. It had a sink, a stove, and a microwave. He loves it, but his mother lets him help fix family meals using his step stool. My husband had to find a stool the other day so that he could stir the pancake batter. If you are looking for stocking stuffers, why not a book? Two new books that I would recommend are “Where is My Bennie?” and “Zachary Goes Treasure Hunting”.

Mmmmm - those fagus trucks look so cool! We got a pete's truck last year for ds and he's TOTALLY into that. It is a pick up truck, the end folds down, and there's a towable wagon. LOOOVES it!

We got him a pirate ship for the bathtub, lots of choices there, and a bilibo. The play kitchen is really a nice thing, all teh boys play with it here! We have a Melissa and Doug pizza, and that's the hit of the neighborhood lol!

Also a really nice congo drum, or some other kind of instrument would be fun! Or a plasma car?

Some cool sites:

http://www.greentoys.com/ (this one is not selling yet, but WOW! For next year or birthday?! TOTALLY cool!)

At that age our ds loved trucks of any sort. I'm particularly fond of the Bruder trucks (made in Germany, so meet EU safety standards).

Active Toys sells them. I really like the garbage trucks (ds went through a major garbage truck phase) -- its popular with all the neighbor kids. (And I think if you type in GERMANTOYS before Christmas, you'll get free shipping).

If he likes toys with people/figures, I really like the Playmobil stuff.

Don't forget the possibility of something active too, like skis, a sled, a scooter, or bike.

I found (re-found, obviously lol!) the web site for Peter's Truck. It's sold at A Toy Garden. (atoygarden.com)
