my dd only sits through Lost and Heroes. She doesn't watch more than an hour of tv a day at the most.

Well it may be something that has to be looked at on a case by case basis. (Not that I generally give enough of a crap to look that closely at other people's viewing habits, but since we are discussing it....lol)

For example, my kids are unschooled and there is no school work that must be done, and no studies at all unless they chose to do some. Friends are welcome almost anytime, but the ones that come over most are school kids so they come over after school or on off days. My Ds is not very social by nature, and he doesn't get into sports or just "hanging out", and overall he prefers to be home with us reading, talking, writing on his computer, playing video games, or watching TV. He doesn't have any "issues" (other than the ones we all have I guess lol), it's just that these are the things he enjoys doing and the things he likes to spend time on.

We do other things of course, and in general we tend to listen to music more than watch TV during the day hours, but I think it's more complex than a lot of TV = problems.

I've read the stats, and think it's not atypical, but I wonder where people find the time? I do restrict ds1's tv/video game time to 2 hrs/day, but he would watch all day if I let him. He's 6. DD is 17, and I don't restrict her time, but she watches sporadically -- some days 2-3 hrs, some days not at all. If I added in computer and video game time, it still wouldn't make 7, though -- she prefers to sleep!

I don't think that lack of scheduled afterschool sports or classes means there are issues. Americans are highly over scheduled IMO especially the kids.
