How often are you bathing baby?

Elizabeth was 3 weeks old yesterday and has had a grand total of two baths. DD1 and I are prone to dry skin, and it's so darn cold here, I didn't want to overdo it on the baths. I clean the diaper area at every change... Is this enough?

So far Conrad gets a bath once a week, and that seems sufficient... that's about how often we did Dylan also. At 3 years old, Dylan generally only gets two baths a week even now. :

Yeah, I think so. Mine has the cheese under the arms but when I go to clean it off, her skin gets rubbed raw. I figure I'd better give her a bath a once in a while but mostly leave her tender skin alone. My ped said 2-3 times a week at most. I clean a few areas between baths, like under the chin--all that milk dripping, ew--and I also wipe the eyes with a warm wet cotton ball almost every day because they seem to be gunky.

Silas is 3wks today & has had 3 baths so far - just making sure I keep an eye on the neck & armpit cheese factories. We just wash with water- no soap & I massage him with olive oil to help with dry skin.

Piper has had 2 wipe down "baths". Her cord stump just fell off 2 days ago, so no real baths yet. I'll probably take a "real" bath with her in the next day or two. But, I doubt if I'll bathe her more than once a week, at least during the winter. In the summer, that may be more like every 2-3 days, but it really just depends on how sweaty and stinky she gets. I only bathe my 3 and 4 yr old maybe twice a week right now, and in the summer, it depended on how much water play they had during the week. They might only get one bath a week if they were in the water constantly.

wren is two weeks old and has had two herb baths, with me.

the neck cheese is one of the fun new things i've learned about as a new parent. i have a lot of experience with babies, but for some reason knew nothing about the stinky neck cheese that is next to impossible to clean out because of all those folds!

I would barely bathe him (maybe once per week) because he smells great naturally and when we do bathe him, he flakes. We'd used it as a tool to wake him in the evenings for a few nights though to try and get him to sleep at night. We use no soap yet at this point. His only yucky area is the diaper area and so I try to wipe him down with water at most every change.

wren's dry skin is healing but she does still have a bunch of dry patches on her face. i feel weird rubbing oil on her face though, so i've just been leaving it be. what are the rest of you doing?

I took Maddie into a bath with me after her cord fell off-so one bath was far in 2.5 weeks-and of course she pooped on me! We're lucky in the skin dept and she's only needed oil once.

Mairaed had a bath at the hospital and then 2 more sponge baths at home. Today (at 11 days old) was her first "real" bath and she HATED it. Her ass explodes regularly so her bum gets cleaned several times a day but I still wanted to give her a nice little bath. Her skin is SO sensitive- not only baby skin but irish/scottish baby skin. Poor kid... she is pretty much doomed in the sensitive skin department.

I waited for 4 days to give Delilah her very first bath and haven't given her another yet. It was awesome to be the one to wash all the vernix from her hair

Asher is four weeks old today and has had two baths. Water only. As long as the genital area is kept clean, and anything dirty is cleaned up, I see no reason to torture him more.

My five- and two-year-old bathe once a week in water only unless they get flithy.

Aldria gets a bath every 2 days or so. She has tons of hair and it gets greasy and looks horrible. Plus she spits up quite a bit and starts to smell kinda funky after more than 48 hours.

My little guy gets a bath about every 3 days. His big brothers constantly have their hands all over him and give him smooches, they love him so much...
Niklas loves taking baths, I've gotten him the biggest tub I could find so he has plenty of water and can stretch out and enjoy. I think those babytubs are ridiculous with an inch of water...who would enjoy a bath like that? Anyhoo, after his bath I give him a nice massage and just marvel over how perfect and cute he is.
Not torture in our house, the bathroom is nice and warm!

Maisie, all my boys suffered from diaper rashes during the first few weeks, sensitive skin, the Irish type. I give Niklas a sitzbath every night, with a bit of baking soda in warm water and then lather on lansinoh. During the day I don't use anything but maybe some Weleda (calendula) diaper cream. So far this routine has worked fastest and best for us.

After having a kid with severe eczema for the first year of his life I stick with a couple of basic things to wash all my kids. Aveeno baby wash works great and while ds1 had very dry skin I would add some olive oil to his bath, omg, it worked wonders! Just pat dry after, dry skin gone!

Zero real baths so far...she's two and a half weeks old. She hates being unwrapped and hates being cold, so I undress half of her at a time and sponge her down. She's also dry and a little flaky, so I've been using jojoba on her skin when I remember. Her butt gets wiped down with every diaper change, though.

Ronin is a week tomorrow and had his hospital bath and one wipe down at home so far. Was thinking he was due for another wipe down tomorrow.
Oh yes, the neck cheese. Gotta love it along with the brightest breast milk poops ever.
