1st: apologies to moms with underproduction probs... I can not even imagine....

this is also called a foremilk/ hindmilk imbalance... I had it severely with evan and I am having the same prob now with Dean (not quite as bad) the things I did to help evan are not really working now.. does anyone have experience with this issue?? I really need to get this solved before i go back to work.. I am calling my lac consultant tomorrow but wanted your thoughts as well as experience... thanks...

I know: some of you are thinking "sounds like a "tough" prob to have" but it actually IS a big prob and causes all manner of evil colic/ reflux feeding probs and can even lead to bleeding intestines and intestinal damage (evan had that from it..) sooooo.. it is actually a real prob... thanks

I feel like I am complaining about not being able to gain weight!!! people hate you for it but it is a HUGE prob
when you have it....

ps am xposting in BF forum...

Wish I had some advice, but I'm one who has struggled with the opposite problem in the past. So far, so good this time, though! :

Stupid question-- it's the foremilk you have too much of?

I hope you can get some good advice from the LC!!

Well, I had that problem too last time and I"m solving it this time by having a toddler drink the foremilk.

But short of having a toddler, I would recommend block feeding. So instead of switching sides each time you nurse, nurse on one side for 6 hours, then on the other side. That way you don't fill up on the side that your nursing on quite as much, so each time he nurses on that side, he gets more hindmilk (or at least that's how I believe this works).

Yeah. Are you block feeding? How long are your blocks?

Don't apologize for having a challenge! I don't know anything about hyperlactation, but hope you get some good answers.

When I first started nursing 3.5yrs ago, I had this problem, combined w/ an pveractive letdown. If you don't mind me asking, do you also have the pveractive letdown, b/c in my experience, the 2 usually go hand in hand.

I third the suggestion for block feeding. I have never switched sides during a feeding, I've always let the babe strictly nurse on 1 side per feeding. BUT, I also let my let down go into a prefold so that the babe was choking on it AND getting a lot of foremilk. Catching the let down in the pf, and not having the babe get it allowed me to not have to resort to 6 hr blocks, I was usually okay w/ 3hr blocks.

i do have a way overactive let down too.. i have been nursing one side only and same side two feeds in a row so about a 4 hr block.. i also strted pumping the top off ,, i did this rouine with ds2 and it helped.. this time i think the pumping is making it worse and i think my block is too short,,, thanks all for thoughts.. will lengthen block and try skip the pump and do the diaper thing when he gets me let down.. thanks.. also i will let down two or three ttimes in a single maybe 15-20 min feed... poor baby chokes horribly...spent ALL last night walking around my house patting his back..zzzzzzzzz
