Homemade Laundry detergent

Thread Starter
Someone posted recipes for laundry detergent awhile ago, (this summer). I'm wondering if they work for HE machines. I didn't save the link when I saved the thread, so if anyone could remind me what the thread was called, I'd be delighted, or if you subbed to it. . .

Thanks!

Anybody know? Who put these recipes in? Does anyone use it?

I use the powdered recipe in my HE machine and it works wonderfully! I put in 2 parts Fels Naptha to 1 part washing soda and 1 part borax. Because our water is on the hard side I also put in about 1/4c washing soda with the soap in the main dispenser when I'm washing regular laundry. I don't do this for diapers.
I use 1T for diapers
2T for regular laundry
3T for heavy loads

My favorite part about it is that there is no smell whatsoever when the laundry comes out. The fels has a powerful citrus smell, but once everything's washed you would never know it!

Also, I grate the fels to make it small then put it in my food processor, I add the other ingredients to the food processer so it's mixed really well.

Don't forget, however, that if you do not use HE laundry detergent, you void your washer's warranty. If it is still under warranty, that is.

Yeah, we just did get it this spring. So. . . I have all the stuff for making except for the Fels Naptha. Maybe I'll just break down and get some Charlie's HE. I suppose it would last longer than the bottle of 7th Gen.

And for the stuff for the recipe, I do have a friend I bought FBs with who can use it, and another friend I loaned my newborn FBs.

Oh yeah, I am saving tons of money not buying disposables every other week. I can spend a little money on good detergent for them. Hmm, all about perspective. What can I say, I'm cheap? I just don't want to buy a bunch and not like it/have problems. But DD hasn't had skin problems.
Thanks, ya'll!

I (and my friend too) use the liquid for my front-loader. It's been working great.

I hate the fact that all washer repair guys blame homemade detergents for everything even though it doesn't suds at all! My FL was leaking a little bit of water from the bottom of the door, and it was because there was lint clogged in the rubber part that I didn't see. He tried to tell me that my detergent was the cause, and that the recipe is for traditional top-loaders, and that I needed to get HE.
