Beginning to wean...

Saddest day of my life : DD has health issues that are forcing my hand, and I know its for the best, but I hate it just the same. I'm planning to pump temporarily to make sure that she tolerates the special medical food. I figure in the morning before DS gets up, she and I will have one last good long nurse and then I will go strictly to bottle feeding Giving up breastfeeding has definitely been my most difficult breastfeeding challenge, and I just needed to share it with people who understand why its such a big huge deal to me :

ANd just for those who wonder why: DD tolerates no food by mouth and has begun reacting to all but 2 foods that I eat. I'm not enough of a saint (or masochist ) to continue that. She has chronic stomach inflammation and is so uncomfortable.

You know I understand as I've btdt! BIG hugs! It's hard, but looking back I know my children thrived on the nasty stuff and it was for the best. Feel free to pm me.

Couldn't read and not post. I'm so sorry you are having to wean : But, at least you know that you've done all that you can. Good luck and

I couldn't live on only 2 foods, either. I doesn't sound very healthy for you OR your milk. I am sorry that you have to wean before you are ready. But you are doing what is best for your little one and yourself. Be gentle on yourself.

I am so sorry to hear that you have to wean! I lddid it because of my own health problems (see below) and it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. He's been without nursing for almost a month now and I still miss it (and I think he does too).

I shouldn't tell you how hard it is though, I should tell you that you can do it, and that the baby will adjust, because both things are true. You obviously wouldn't do it if you did not have to and I can understand that you can't only eat 2 foods for the next year or so! You've done an amazing job so far and you're never wrong for doing the best you can.

sugar: I remember reading your story and thinking our babes were in the same DDC. Hugs to you as well!

Jennifer: As always, you cheer me up

Thanks everyone! It's actually gone a little smoother than I expected, and I've been more okay with it than I thought. I might be deluding myself, but she's already resting a bit more comfortably it seems. I did accidentally nurse her this afternoon when I sat down to check email Apparently NAKing has become ingrained in me....And it was an overdue nap. I knew nap and bedtime would be the hardest ones to cut. BUt she is drinking some of it (okay, so only about 4 ounces thus far) and I'll have some feeding help this evening from one of her grandmas so fingers are crossed! ANd she took some in the middle of the night, so maybe just maybe having her weaned by her 10 month birthday will happen :cry

(((hugs))) to you and your little one. Having been dairy free for years and gluten free for months, I can only begin to imagine what it *might* be like only being able to eat two foods. I'm going through the ringer right now because I haven't had any of my favorite chocolate in a couple of weeks b/c I'm not sure it doesn't contain gluten.

I do want to share something, that I hope will not offend you or anyone else. I feel like it is quite a coincidence that I came across an article that talks about using enzymes in a BF mom who has an atopic child just this morning, on the foodlab yahoo group I'm on. Of course, you may very well have come across this already, but in the off chance you haven't, I thought it would be important to share it: http://www.drjacknewman.com/images/s...umlact2002.pdf

to you and I hope that things go smoothly for you both from here on out.
