Ronin's birth story

I think I've finally got enough non-nak time to type this up. Here goes.

Tuesday the 20th I went in for my 41 week visit and my first ever NST. Both appointments were first thing in the morning. So dd got dropped at school, my sis came to babysit ds and dh was at work.
Had my NST first. The woman was so nice, explained everything to me, I had the whole room to myself. She got out the u/s and told me my fluid was low, but would check again after I had been monitored for 30 minutes and it might go up. After 30 minutes, my fluid had returned to a low normal and I was told I was having contractions every 3-4 minutes. They were not painful at all and I was not going to get my hopes up. So I headed to my ob appt (was switched to ob for appts after 40 wks).
Ob was great, very upbeat. Checked me and I was 3 cm, totally effaced, but still kind of high. She stripped my membranes. Aside from my fluid being low, it was also particulate, possible meconium, so she wanted to send me up to l&d. I wanted a bit of time to get some labor going if the stripping was going to work, plus I had to go back home, so I told her I'd be back within 2-3 hours.
So I called everyone to set up child care, etc. Dh was going to meet me at home, but he was concerned about me driving. I could tell he was a little stressed. Anyhow, drove back home, stopped at dd's school to tell her what was going on. Got home, got my stuff together, had a snack and drove back out to the hospital.
Back at l&d I got hooked up to a monitor again. My favorite mw was on duty and she checked me and did another u/s. I was still 3 cm and high. Fluid was still low. She had the dr. on duty check to see if she could get a different reading. She got the same. They were ready to admit me and induce me (or augment my labor, since I was technically already in labor, still contracting every 3-4 min). But they would have to use pitocin since the baby was still high, there was a risk of they baby's head putting too much pressure on the cord if they broke my water. I really wanted to avoid pitocin, dh and I discussed it and decided to go home. The ob was surprised, I guess most women would stay. Because of the low fluid and possible meconium, she told me I had until Thurs morning to go on my own, and scheduled an induction.
I met my mom and dc at her house. Dh had school, so we decided it was best for dc and I to spend the night at my mom's and call dh if anything progressed.
I woke up the next morning at 4:30 with an intense contraction. Wanted to make sure it was regular before really waking up. After 30 min of painful cntx every 3-4 minutes, decided to call dh. Took a shower. Dh got there soon after and we were off.
Got to l&d and they checked me. I was 6 cm! I guess I got to sleep through the boring part. They admitted me and around 9:30 my sister showed up. My nurse was great and so were the mws.
Around 11:45 am I felt a definate change in pressure and the nurse checked me. My bag of waters was coming out and she could see meconium. All of a sudden the room had another nurse, the ped, and the mw. After 10 minutes of pushing, Ronin was born! I was so glad the pushing was short because I was worried about the mec. No tearing, btw.
Dh, my sis, and myself all started crying at the same time. I got to hold him right away, it was wonderful. They had to clamp the cord pretty quick and take him to suction out his lungs. They got all the mec out and there were no complications. He weighed in at 8 lbs and was 20 inches, exact same size at dd. He looked so tiny compared to ds (he was 9.6).
That's that. He took to nursing right away and I can't believe I have another beautiful babe. I already can't imagine my life without him.

I'm so glad you were able to wait until your body started labour on its own. Way to sleep through 'the boring parts' .
