Probiotics for Reflux

Thread Starter
I'm 14 weeks pg right now, and reflux is hitting me HARD. I had to call off work yesterday because it kept me up the night before and I didn't trust myself behind the wheel to get there.

Someone suggested probiotics to help it out. I have been REALLY bad at TF recently with my tiredness and weird food aversions, and really need to get back into it.

So any suggestions for good pre-bedtime probiotics?

my DH has refluz and he takes an rx and probiotics, both of which seem to help. also try tums, its just calcium and they seem to help.

I didn't get awful heartburn/reflux when pregnant but did have it enough to know that it's pretty miserable. I tried papaya enzymes, helped occasionally; and a handful of almonds (or filberts) chewed really well which worked every time. I carried around a bag of almonds in my purse while pregnant

Kombucha helps me with reflux a lot, over the long term, but also gives almost immediate relief when I have a bad bout with it. I brew my own with green tea that has been pre-steeped to remove most of the caffeine. Good luck.

Congrats!

Sorry to hear about the reflux.

If you can, I'd recommend kefir, water kefir or kombucha.

what helps me with reflux usually is a small amount of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. a teaspoon or so. i worked my way up to a tablespoon but any more than that didn't work. i'm not sure why that works so well but i think it has to do with the whole theory that when you have reflux you need more acid in your stomach.

I have heard numerous times (and both of my NDs concur) that most people do not produce too much stomach acid, and that the problem is actually too little stomach acid. I got relief from mine by taking HCL and digestive enzymes with each meal. That prevented heartburn most of the time. Then if I still had a problem, an extra enzyme capsule would work. I also took the bulk of my calcium at bedtime.
