Getting red dirt out of clothes

I'll be the first to admit that I'm terrible with laundry. Pretty much, I throw it in, throw some detergent in there (Arm and Hammer free and clear), add vinegar to the rinse cycle, dry everything, adn there you go.

But.... But.... Now, I have this rough and tumble kid that loves to get red dirt all over his knees. So, I need something stronger to help prevent stains. All my mom can offer is "use Tide and buy darker clothes." I am looking for something a bit more.

Any ideas?

Maybe red dirt doesn't actually come out? There's a company here in AZ that uses red dirt from Sedona to dye shirts and hats and things. Pretty color, but probably not the effect you were going for!

Sorry...I guess I'm not very helpful .

afaik caleche stains really bad. you might try oxy clean. my parents are electricians and dig lots of ditches, the red clay soil is pretty common in places here, I don't think they've figured out a solution for removing the stain.
