"Cricket" magazine and Christians?

Specifically Mormons? I'm thinking about getting this for my niece, who is almost 11, for Christmas, and I'm hoping it would not be offensive to them.

Any other book or magazine suggestions for a voracious and advanced reader would also be greatly appreciated!

I am a long-time Cricket fan, and I cannot recall ever seeing anything in it that would be offensive to Mormons.

It sometimes includes stories that involve magic and fantasy, so if they're hardcore anti-fantasy types, that might be an issue. It also sometimes includes stories that describe non-Christian and non-monotheist religions. I would not find these offensive, but I know some people feel strongly about sheltering their children from these things. If your niece's parents haven't allowed her to read, say, the Harry Potter books, there might be stuff in Cricket that bothers them as well.

In all other situations, I think it's a great present.

I am a Cricket fan, too, and I kind of hoped someone would say this. I think I'm going to end up getting her "Muse" by the Carus publishers. Fortunately, her mom told me today that she had already read all the Harry Potter books and a few of the Lord of the Ring books, so I know they're cool with that.

I'm just a little nervous because I got SIL a subscription to "Gourmet" one year, and unfortunately it was the year that it changed to "Gourmet: Food and Wine", so she canceled it. And, this same niece was my flower girl when she was three and couldn't wear the dress I'd made for her because it was sleeveless. I've been surprised by these things because my parents used to be mormon and I grew up somewhat active in the church, but my parents had much laxer standards. Anyway, I just want to be sure that she'll like it and my brother and SIL will be comfortable with it. So thanks for your input!
