Dumbledore's brother

I was just wondering how or if Dumbledore's brother will play a part in the next 2 books. I don't think Rowling ever introduces a character (even just in passing) that she doesn't follow up with later. Well so it seems.

I agree, I just hope it's nothing involving goats

Could the mod move this? Maybe? perhaps?

How did I miss this? Dumbledore's brother, who is this? Was this in OOP? Looks like I'm going to have to re-read this one.

Early on , before Harry went back to school, Mad Eye (or was it Lupin?) showed him a photo of the original Order and pointed out each member. One of the members was Dumbledore's brother, and all Moody said was something like "He was a little strange, met him once and never saw him again after that."

Aberforth (dumbledore's bro) was also mentioned in book 4 in a convo with Hagrid.

I tend to believe JKR doesn't throw names around lightly, even if it is just once or twice in passing, and Aberforth will play a role in one of the upcoming books.

Interesting, I'll have to go back and look for both references in both books.

I agree, JesseMommie, I don't think JK throws names or references around lightly. Aberforth will make a reappearance.

kylix,
in book 4 it's in the convo Dumbledore had with Hagrid right after Rita Skeeter printed the article about his being half-giant.

In book five it's in the begining, right after his rescue from the dursleys when he's still at Sirius's house before school starts.

Aberforth is Albus' disappointing, death eater brother. Aberforth thinks their parents loved Albus best.

Okay at mugglenet ( http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/...wer/gt10.shtml)one of the fans had an interesting prediction about Aberforth that I thought you Mamas might enjoy reading!

The first one is from Charles Russett.

Having re-read chapter 16 i feel that the bar man of the Hog's Head is probably Aberforth Dumbledore. This !is backed up by the following: 1:Harry thinks the old grey bearded man looks familiar. He recentley saw Aberforth in the picture shown to him by Moody of the original Order of the Pheonix. 2. It would be useful to have someone in the Hog's Head to glean news from people of a dodgy background. 3: Goats, In book 4 we here how that Aberforth was prosecuted for practising illegal charms on a goat. The hogs head smells strangely of something that could be goats. 4:His grumpy mannerisms suggest he doesnt really want to be running a bar, but could be there under orders. 5:He wipes glasses with a dirty cloth. Clearly his first priority is to listen to the customers' conversations 6: Dumbledore seems to know alot of what happened in the Hog's Head, perhaps Aberforth told him.
Well, I must say, this does make sense. We never learn exactly where Aberforth is, and as we have seen, Rowling never puts anything into the books that doesn't mean something. I would really like !to see where this one goes.

Bravo, Kim..or rather Chas. Russert! What was the punishment for illegal goat charming? I'm re-reading #4 at this moment after someone mentioned Hagrid talking about Abe in GOF.

OH! OH! OH! I just read the chapter about the meeting at Hog's Head to dd last night! I thought for a fleeting moment, maybe that's Aberforth. Nah... I shouldn't have doubted myself!
