PRe fitteds pulling apart!

I am making a few newborn prefitteds. When I connect the tab to the body I am just serging it on (seam not incased as on diapersewing.com). When I have pulled to make sure the serge was strong the pull apart! Has anyone else had a problem with this? Is my whole diaper going to fall apart as soon as it is used because of the way the birdseye fabric is?
I am a bit frusterated because I have read everywhere this supposedly getting the best of both worlds, I can afford to replace these!

Anyway any help would be great.

Not sure, but maybe after you serge, just follow up with a zig zag stitch? If you sew the seam down to the body of the prefold, so you don't have a serged edge sticking out (so, do it kinda like a french seam if that makes sense) it should make it pretty dang strong. I dont trust a serged only edge to bear any weight, so I usually follow up by sewing over it. HTH
