ok. now that the milks realllllllly 'a flowin' mamas, i'm engorged big time. as my friend tam would say 'machine gun jubblies?' : anyway, so yeah. big time engorgement. and i can't seem to express it in the hot shower........don't have a pump yet but may send mama out to get me one tonight....any kind will do right now at this point....and sheamas doesn't like nursing, as megh didn't either, when he can't get a nipple cuz my areola is so full and engorged he can't get it nipple into his mouth...i can imagine the frustration they'd have. sooooooooo...any other suggestions?????? megh gave me relief before playing my 'pump' as she loved/loves mommy milk...that's fine w/ me. but now i just think i'd rather try something else. help. this hurts. i think in the past pumping is what helped relieve some of this pressure.............then baby nursing of course. anyone else engorged who just had babies? milk was in but holy cow, its a free flowing river now. i make milk so well if i do say so myself.................. :

does ice help? that only gives soothing relief right...but not to get milk out though...

ok i googled the subject and decided to try and put heat on my breasts....wet washcloth and kept putting more hot water on it and holding it on there...seems to help...milk started to drip...able to get some out...i should probably wake sheamas as soon as my areola aren't so engorged...have him nurse. he's been sleeping really long...i hate to wake him up...gives me a break and plus if he's tired, i want him to rest. ah but the boobs..............the boobs get affected. guess i'll have to nurse him every 2 hours at least cuz this will happen.

my mom is running to the store, the dear, to get me a manual pump. poor thing....just the thing she looked like she wanted to do. she just took a hot tub w/ my meghy girl. that was sure nice of her.

oh and i should start a thread on engorged feet.........how do i get those to go down.......ouch!

I feel your pain. I am on a 8 hr block nursing schedule to back up milk to down regulate.. so I can't pump or express for relief,, it would defeat the point.. so one boob goes 8 hrs w/o a milkin'... then I switch.. it hurts like hell but he has stopped pooping green liquid and seems a little more comfortable ... hang in there the boobies will reg... pretty fast too

I have Booby Tubes from Earth Mama Angel Baby and I love them- I keep them in the freezer and they help alot. I was going to resort to frozen bags of corn but the booby tubes were not as cold- and better tolerated by me. I have heard that heat helps too- I have one of those bags of (maybe rice?) that you mist with water and put in the microwave. I have not tried it on engorged boobs yet but I plan to...

My lactation consultant suggested cabbage leaves -- 20 minutes, three times a day. She said don't overdo it because it will actually dry up your milk. You also shouldn't do this if you're allergic to sulfa drugs, because it's the sulpher in the cabbage that makes it work (??).

Use a cold cabbage and it really offers some relief. My family found it offered a considerable amount of COMIC relief.
