Sewing machine rec's for diaper making?

I'm interested in CDing when we have a babe, and I've never done any sewing. :

Can anyone recommend a good machine for diaper-making? Is it possible to get a good one (for this) for <$200?

Thanks!

I have a Janome Harmony that works great! All of my problems have been user error, lol! I'm not sure on price, my exMIL got mine at Sears as a Christmas gift, but I know Hancock Fabrics carries the Janome brand and they are always having sales.

My friend has a Brother sewing machine from Wal-Mart that she uses for diapers all the time. I haven't heard any complaints about it.

If you are using it primarily for diapers you don't need a lot of fancy stitches. Mine has 22 different stitches and I only use 3-the straight, the zig-zag, and the 3 step zig-zag. I'm not even sure what the other ones do!

I have a Viking and love it. You might also try used machines at the local sewing machine shops. As long as it works reliably - you're good to go. I hear that all metal construction is better than plastic. I think I read that the plastic parts can warp. All you have to have is straight stitch, but a zigzag is nice too.

All metal construction is definitely better than plastic. But, it is a bit more difficult to find, and of course more expensive when you do find it.

I have 2, the same brand, one is a 25 year old all metal Bernina that was my mother's. The other is a 20 year old metal/plastic Bernina sport (Bernette) that was my first machine. The Bernette served me very well for years, but as soon as I pulled out my mom's old machine and started using it, I really noticed a huge difference. I don't have to worry about the all-metal machine walking or shaking from the vibrations, which means I can sew faster. I only ever use the straight and zig-zag stitches, which means either machine would work just fine, but in use the all-metal machine makes a huge difference in comfort.

Just wanted to let you know that Hancock Fabrics has the Bernia Bernette 65 on sale for $199. It normally sells for $299 and looks like it's a nice machine.
