Why Not To Tickle? - Page 2

We've been teaching dd some basic sign language. One of the very first she learned was "more". Tickling was one of the first times she used the sign. (I've always given her the breathers.) Usually she wants more and I've run out of energy (at only 13 mths!).

In self defense class I learned to pat twice to let my partner know I'd had enough. Pat the floor loudly or pat the person softly. Now I realize I need to start teaching dd that one just in case I don't stop soon enough. I wouldn't want her to dislike tickling when she's older.

I HATED with a passion being tickled when I was small and still even now when being intimate with my DH I hate it if he touches me in a way that feels ticklish.

I will NEVER tickle any child as I know how horrible it is not to be able to get someone to stop. I have felt like I was going to actually die if the person didn't stop tickling me, I hated it so much.

My skin was so sensitive to tickling that my mum had to get my sisters to help her hold me on the floor once every few months to wash my neck (I couldn't even do it myself). She wasn't being cruel btw, just an example of how extremely sensitive I was! She would only ever do it when I really really needed it.

But I totally agree with the article. I get so mad when people tickle me even now that I WILL punch, bite, and kick to get rid of them (and I'm 22!!) - I think if they won't respect me I don't care if they get hurt. It kind of feels painful to me to be tickled anyway, so if they're hurting me I wILL hurt them back if they won't stop when asked. I don't see anything even remotely funnyabout being tickled.

PS - didn't realise how much this topic still winds me up!!
