UGH- I am so hungry!

I am hungrier now than when I was pregnant. By a long shot. I know we need 700 more calories as breastfeeding mamas... but how many calories am I supposed to take in? I am not trying to lose weight just yet but I am being ridiculous with all this food. I am going to go back to weightwatchers about 8 weeks postpartum... I want to make sure I am eating enough though. Anyone know the recommended calorie intake? Oh- and I am 180 right now. Down 20 lbs since Mairaed was born. Thanks!

I eat like a fiend when nursing.. much more than when PG.. I think I peaked at 4 mos last 2 times for appetite..

Yeah, I'd say you're fine. Try to make healthy choices (but don't deny yourself treats, either)!

i've heard anywhere from 1800 to 2700 for daily calorie intake post-partum if you're BFing. 1800 seems really low to me, even if you're trying to drop that weight.

i'm just going to try to let my body give me cues as much as possible.

if you are hungry, that means you need more food, so by all means: eat! this is when you're actually eating for two, rather than during your pregnancy.

nak

I was the same way with DD last time -always hungry & always eating. I didn;t worry about calories, just ate when I could & lost all the preggo weight & more by 5 mos. As Lindsey said, eat healthy but don't deny yoursaelf treats.

Oddly I'm tandem nursing this time but not nearly as hungry

OK, well my body is telling me it wants the cheetos that are on top of the fridge but I suppose I should have some fruit first.. to justify the cheetos. : I am debating using weightwatchers as my guideline not to lose weight but for the discipline of getting in the calcium, fruits and veggies because otherwise it is a free-for-all in my mind....

Thanks for the advice! And I am liking the idea of a 2700 calorie day....

my MW asked how my appetite was..she is worried as my BP has gone up and it never has......never is...... plus the edema in my feet/ankles and lack of appetite for the most part......she worries about PP preclampsia. hmmmm. yeah, come to think of it my appetite isn't so great. not like me.

did i tell you mamas i was craving sushi at 9 cm dilated?! the dr and nurse and MW thought it so cute.

I thought I would need to eat a ton to nurse but I am rarely hungry and losing weight. I think I am okay though. I DO need to drink more. But I am definitely NOT on a diet or anything!

Yep, what you said. I've figured out my points based on my current weight and nursing and all that, and it's like 42 points. I haven't actually started counting points... I'm slowly gearing up.

And Gina, I'm having a hard time getting my water in also. I was go good about it while pregnant, but for some reason it is harder to do it now. Well, almost all kinds of self-care is hard now, and the water is no exception.

Always starving here as well. It's the worst in the middle of the night nursing, because I can't goo grab something.

I've actually felt less hungry. I hope that means the weight will come off easily. I've never been one to diet. I prefer to listen to my body. I find myself pretty easily going 4-5 hours in between meals, which I could never do when pregnant.

Yah, just one more reason to think we were twins in a past life

The first few days I was eating anything I could get my hands on. LOL Thats gone though, I eat twice a day it seems now. Not only do I not have time or energy, I just do not feel like it. I know, not good. Specially as I am worried about supply now!

Hubby keeps telling me to hang on as he will be feeding me lots when he gets home and letting me get some sleep. I am starting to lose it

I am sick and had a fever last night and baby was nursing all night and upset and my breast hurt and always feel empty the last 5 days or so....

Kimmy. You can do it. Just a few more days to go before his homecoming. Just take it one hour at a time if you have to. Do you have a friend that can come help with the kids for a few hours so you can rest a bit? Are you drinking mother's milk tea?
