Just wondering if anyone else's school does events that require so much person power (time) and donations (business or family) that it begins to build resentment toward the school.

I'm new to our (private) school and we're about to put on a holiday sale (craft vendors, lunch cafe, tours of the school, etc.) and it is supposed to be a fund-raiser while also serving the purpose of introducing people/families to the school. It is such an undertaking that every family is expected to participate by volunteering in some capacity. I don't think that expecting everyone to participate is a bad idea generally, but I have a hard time seeing the pay-off for all this work. The money raised is hardley enough to warrant all the energy and person hours. My personal time totals 30 hours in the month of November alone! If we added up everyone's time, whew, I can only imagine.

My dd is in kindergarden so I'm just starting out. I want to be supportive, however I can see how parents burn-out or lose interest in volunteering; especially when the outcomes are hard to measure.

Thanks for the vent.
