We just moved into a fabulous home, only problem is I didn't remember the carpets were this bad when I viewed the place.
We have already ripped out the carpet in the main bedroom, and voila, hardwood floor.
But the other rooms are a different ball of wax. The carpet can and will be ripped out, but the carpet backing is stuck to the wood floor ( plywood? hardwood? cannot tell) and it is not lovely to behold. How the heck do I get this stuff off without using some corrosive chemical and without ruining the floor underneath? Any advice is needed.
Also, does anyone know of a non-toxic stain for wood floors? Or a varathane? Do I have to varathane it? How about linseed oil? Thank you!!!!!

Maybe you can try there.
I saw a four page thread there once for getting that popcorn stuff off your ceiling, I was awed.
