ok...........all i have to say is that those stool softeners do NOT soften my poop worth a dime. OH. MY. GOD. that hurt. i only could stand pushing out 3 hard nuggets. i couldn't bear anymore. ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did it seem as bad as the first poo after your C-section? I was really dreading it this time around but it was not as bad as I thought it would be -- definitely not as bad as post C-section!

When I started on iron tablets, that's when things got uncomfortable. I was taking an extra stool softener every day there for a while, and still eating lots of prunes and prune juice.

So.... fiber and lots of water! And don't put it off!

i think this is about the same feeling only hurts more w/ bruised swollen sore rectum.
Shucks, wish I could have told you this before you went! Soak in a hot hot bath for as long as you can first. It seems to help ease it out when you're bruised and swollen.

It sucks. I know.

Try a fiber suppliment instead next time. (Or now even.) Eat lots of fruits and veggies too.

My dh took an oz of olive oil to cure constipation one time too and it worked within 5 min. very effectivley.

Might help. Tastes nasty though.

nak...
do you have a potty seat that goes on the regular toilet? It seems weird, but sitting on ds's baby bjorn potty seat made it som much easier to poop those first few times pp.

Blow out through your lips like making a "horse" sound. It loosens up the bum, plus its kind of hard to stress out while sitting on the pot and making ppppppppppp noises. It helps, I was dreading it too but it wasnt that bad after all.

My birth assistant told me Vit. C, so I took like 10 packets of Emergen-C. Worked like a charm...

oh man it still hurts....i did push as i pushed w/ birthing sheamas....breathed, held my breath, inhaled, pushed...so forth. made sounds...pouring warm water from the peri bottle over my rectum helps...very comforting/relaxing...i have considered using the little blow up 'donut' seat the hospital gave me...i've tried reading...it realllllly hurts. i will take some emergen-C now. and i will take some floridix too. that will get things flowing out loosely... thanks mamas.

i think i have a giant external and internal hemmoroid. maybe if i put a suppositorie in it will help too? i've just been putting cream on the outside and using medicated wipes. (hope they ok over stitches...that they won't disintegrate...) i've also considered pooping in a squatting position over paper towels........i'm hurting and constipated big time.

did i mention yet how in love i am w/ my children??? : being a mama to them is the most beautiful precious gift ever. i could not ask for more. that is actually mine and meghs' song...one of them. the other is 'i don't wanna miss a thing'. framed and all-i need to hang that up again by our new bed...

I was going to recommend coffee. Not the healthiest alternative.. but it worked for me (after 2 days of cringing at the thought of pooping). Good luck, and happy pooping!

i thought coffee might plug me up.......hmmm eh it makes me grouchy anyway, plummets my blood sugar...makes me too tired too.

the hot water in the peri bottles helps if i squirt it on my rectum as i sit the anus just opens right up and plop! : i haven't taken another actual 'bath' cuz the nurses at the hospital gave me a hard time when she learned i'd taken an actual full bath there. ie. to avoid infection reasons... can i take a bath NOW??? i want to!!! so badly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'll even poop in the tub if i have to. BM's still coming out slowly...uncomfortably....but surely. they seem like such big nuggets.....ouch.

these stool softeners suck. they didn't help soften last time after i birthed megh either...

ouch.

Yeah, the official word is no tub baths to prevent infection. Sitz/Herbal bath is okay 3x/day for 10 min each time. I wouldn't poo in the tub cause of risk of infection...

No baths?!?! My mw actually recommended a bath pp to help w/ discomfort.

Huge doses of Vit. C will definitely loosen you up. Like 5000 mg. It took me 5 days before I had that first pp poo, but I waited until I was good and ready, no pushing involved. Probably could have gone a day sooner, but I wasn't about to push it out if you kwim.

Funny thing is I have a daily cup of coffee, always, so I expected it would happen sooner, but I think labor just really cleans you out, so it takes a few days.

I had a bath right away after I gave birth because I felt so weak and tired and cold. My midwife was right there and said I could.

Pooping is worse then transition...and with my first pp poop I tore my bum (tmi ) and now even though I am pooping every day it feels like giving boirth every time I poop since it hurts sooooo much and my bum has bled....ouch....I am reading this thread and have started prune juice, got some at the food bank last week, and think i have some emergen c from my birth kit.....I need to soften my poop so my bottom won't hurt....ouch...never had this problem with dd1 or dd2!

what stool softner and how many are you taking?

: i was blessed, my first pp poop was effortless and slid out easier than normal, i was expecting constipation and never got it.

but....... 3mths pp i was hit with EXTREME constipation, it was like giving birth again. I had a plug that was two fists wide. After getting that thing out of there with an enema and much screaming/pushing and a good dose of painkillers after it My dr told me to take 3 colace a day, and slowly wean it down to 1 a day, then down to one as needed. I did that, and increased my water intake, and now I never have any problems. But i tottaly know how you feel, i had some bad fissures and hemaroids after passing that plug, it took about a month for them to heal and me to no longer experience any pain when wiping etc.

If you're worried about infection, maybe just put a ton of sea salt in the bath... they put it in the birth pool to keep that sterile, so why not?

I don't see why you cannot take baths. I mean, in the shower you're digging around there with wet hands and bars of soap. I would think you're just as prone to infecting yourself that way as you are with a bath?????

I HAD to bathe to help the 'roids and the pooping thing. A nice hot bath would make everything work better and relax everything... then I would jump out of the tub and onto the toilet to go poo.

My MW says no regular baths until you're done bleeding, but sitz bath is okay 3x/day for 10 min at a time (I'm pretty sure I wrote that last part in the other post)
