(And, no...I'm not leaving the Nov ddc! It's a "due date" club...not a "birth date" club, right?)
We went to the zoo today, as planned, and walked around while my dd1 was in her class. Then, we went to Mall to have lunch...cuz that's the only place we really know there...
When we were headed to the parking garage, I felt something weird on the back of my calf and reached down to scratch it. There was a big, hard knot right below my knee that hurt really badly when I touched it. I lifted up my pant leg and it was all purple/red and hot to the touch.
I showed dh and he really wanted me to call our mw...but, it was already after regular business hours and I just didn't feel like calling her for anything other than labor, kwim? We started driving home and dh finally talked me into giving her a call.
She was really quiet on the phone and told me to call her as soon as we got back to our house so she could come and look at it. When she got there and examined me, she said we had to go to the hospital because she was worried it was a blood clot.
We drove an hour to go to the hospital where an amazing homebirth CNM who has privileges saw us in consult with the OB's. Our mw had us preparing ourselves emotionally for surgery.
Long story short (because I'm exhausted)... It looks like it's probably just a superficial thrombosis, as opposed to deep vein. They tried to encourage us to induce labor so that we can begin treating it ASAP, but respected our desire to return home and discharged us with their blessing because I'm already dilated and having semi-regular contractions, etc. I have to go an get an outpatient doppler ultrasound test on my leg tomorrow, to ensure that it's just superficial. I also have to keep it elevated with hot compresses. Baby does need to come out sooner than later to get this taken care of, but we should be able to have our homebirth as long as the results of the test come back okay. There was no ultrasound tech at the hospital tonight to do the test there.
I have to find a local place in the morning that will do a weekend test and I also have an acupuncture appointment to try to get things rolling along.
I'm soo relieved to be home! Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers. We really, really need to have our baby this weekend...
