How do you find a midwife that isn't listed anywhere? How do some of you go about doing this?

What state are you in? Start with your tribal area here, and with local doulas and CBEs.

Contact la leche league. Tell the leader you are trying to find a homebirth MW. If she doesnt know, she might know someone who might know. I was given one number, that lady gave me another number, that lady gave me another. I had a scratch pad filled with names and numbers when I was done. 6 degrees of seperation right? I found one! Im sure you can too!

Thanks everyone. I'll start calling LLL Monday.

I asked my Bradley instructor who gave me a number of a friend who then gave me a number of a midwife. I also asked other moms at LLL that had homebirthed and I talked to a midwife in training.

You'll most likely find one through your local LLL chapter but you could also check the database on http://www.midwiferytoday.com

My MW isn't listed anywhere. I found her by asking in my tribal area (one person had a birth attended by her before and emailed me), and then got another reference to her through a LLL which is 45 miles from here. It took a couple weeks last summer to get her information.

Have you guys checked www.mothersnaturally.org ? It's a nicely designed website, with MW referrals.
