Pacifier/binky

I know we have quite a few binky babies on this board, including my girls. Just wondering what kind everyone's babe is partial too.

Hazel and Lucy started with the Avent newborn silicone (clear) ones but fought those pretty hard. We got a Playtex Binky today and they seem to like that better. It says "shaped most like mother's nipple" on the package and it's true!

Conrad seems to prefer the Nuk to the Avent, but will use either... I am waiting on a Playtex and a MAM to come from Drugstore.com.

Desmond had the Soothie in the NICU. It was especially sized for preemies and called the "Wee Soothie." It seemed to bring him comfort so when he was ready we graduated to the regular Soothie. They sure look weird to me.

Georgia is loving the soothie as well. I'm allergic to latex and while we don't prohibit from the house, I can't imagine putting a mouthful of latex slobber on my boob for nursing, so latex binks are out.: We used soothies with all of our kids in the beginning, but our only prolonged bink kid LOVED MAMs. I was planning on getting some for Georgia. She's super sucky and mams fit nice. UGH! How gross does that sound!?

In a perfect world...

In all honestly, it is SO much easier to get rid of the bink than to cut your kid's hand (thumb, fingers, toes) off. I've never had a nonsucker so I'm going to say that I am going to encourage pacifier sucking with this baby!:

megh used a gerber simple paci that is bulbous in shape...started w/ the latex i think it is...base is round which i prefer...i don't care for those oval or figure eight looking bases...i think kids look silly w/ those on their faces... : found another gerber i think it was w/ silicone...don't know which is better health-wise to suck on but i thought the clear was nicer looking. right now sheamas has a gerber latex one...he seems to like it. no nipple confusion either. i don't believe in that now...both my children are awesome nursers and paci suckers.

i'm looking online at the avent ones...ohhhhh darn it they have the shape on the base i can't stand. hmmm ok i'll check out nuks next...hmmm don't like those either. funny shaped nipples... here is what i like best. i personally feel this is more like a nipple of mine anyway...compared to those 'orthodontic' shaped ones that are more pointy w/ the flat side down:

and these are the BEST clips EVER. used them w/ megh and now w/ sheamas...i can't imagine living w/out clips for the pacis...

once in a while i still feel like i have sheamas in my belly, cuz i think to go touch him and love him thru my belly like i did so much...then i realize no, he is not in there anymore! am i tripping out or what!? : oh and did i mention how much in love i am w/ my children? i can't stop thinking that...i feel so strongly for them and i am so incredibly on cloud nine!!!

We're using Avent, but Piper's not especially fond of it. I'm still hoping she'll just find her thumb. I have another binky user still in the house, and for those of you that think it's easy to get rid of...well, not so here. She just starts sucking on her hands/fingers and goes into complete meltdown if we can't find the binky at bedtime (dd2). DH's side of the family has a very strong sucking reflex (as in, dh and several of his cousins were adults before they quit sucking their thumbs/fingers...and yes, dh was breastfed for more than a year, so that's not the reason, he wasn't cut off too early.)

Anyway, maybe I should try a few other brands until she finds her thumb. I didn't really think that babies would have such preferences on binky's but it seems so by all the comments here. I feel pretty confident that she'll find her fingers though, because she came out sucking her thumb/fingers, but since she has the boob and me helping to pacify her now, she doesn't try to find her thumb as much as she surely must have when in utero.

Lisbeth, I still get that same feeling since I sling Piper all the time. I put my hand on her back and it's like touching my belly.

We need to get a few more soothies. We've tried others with Ava and she won't take em, but liked her soothie until Landon took it and started chewing on it None of my other kids ever accepted/took anything so it was a little odd to see her take one. But heck, the girl has such a suckle need and sometimes nursing ALL day long upsets her tummy because she gets too full, so I am not against em in the least bit.

DD still sucks her thumb. It brings her so much comfort and we don't fight it. My thought is that if they have such a strong need to suck, why deny it? In an ideal world I could just sit and nurse my girls all day long. My older kids and my nipples wouldn't be very happy about that, though...nor is it realistic.

I am holding out hope they will find their thumbs like DD did, makes things so much easier when they can just pop it in themselves.
