December Declutter Thread!! - Page 6

I got more done this weekend...

I just tidied up the area where I have my bins of photoes, mementoes, and picture frames. It's a looooooong term project, but I'm sorting all photos by year (weeding out all the crappy photos and throwing away negatives and envelopes). Then when that is done I will do one year at a time, sorting chronologically, writing on the backs, and getting them in archival binders. Whew.

Anyway, today I went through about 15 photo envelopes, tidied the bins up, and realized I am further along in this project than I thought I was.

I also tidied the laundry room, moving the garment rack out of the main space and into a better out-of-the-way space. Cleaned off the counters and vacuumed behind the washer/dryer. Cleaned out the closet there and moved some bins from our office into the closet (bins for sorting stuff to donate, along with seasonal stuff like pool toys and floats), and emptied two more bins.

This week I gave two reptile lights away on freecycle, posted free-for-shipping stuff on the Trading Post, e-mailed some friends who might want the freebie stuff, and resolved to donate it SOON if it doesn't get asked for. This will empty two more tubs. I also gave two small trash bags full of clothes to a friend. If anyone here is looking for well-loved nursing clothes FFS, please PM me.

I assessed my pantry (for a pantry challenge) and pulled the things I know my family will not eat or I will not likely use. Gave that food to a friend who is also doing a pantry challenge and appreciated the additional variety.

I took a whole ton of boxes to be recycled. Got them out of my garage. Yay.

I am gearing up for January to be mending/sewing month. This will empty at least two more bins and possibly three, and require me to actually organize my sewing stuff. Also for December my next goal is to go through my "in box" which is actually two drawers and a basket in my office and kitchen. It's out of control and needs attention. This will get my desk cleaned off.

Now that the worst of my clutter is gone, what's left is really fun!

I cleaned out and organized my desk. It's one of those from Ikea, that the doors close so you don't see the mess...

Months and months of papers, ads, notes on scrap paper, misc pictures people have given me, coupons, etc. built up in one spot - ugh!

I wish I took before and after pics but I'm happy its done no matter what.

edited to add: I forgot I also dropped off a trash bag full of misc items from around the house a couple days ago.

Our goals for this month are:

* Keep coffee table clutter-free for the month.
* Keep dining table clutter-free for the month.
* Clean out and organize armoire/computer desk; designate places for the stuff that keeps cluttering the coffee and dining tables
* Finish dressing room organization (hang up vision boards, purge clothing) and trim work (crown molding, quarter-inch round molding, caulking, painting).
* Donate or sell 50 items.

Woot! The computer armoire has been cleaned out

We've made a bit of progress in the dressing room, which I'm sure will be done soon now that the computer desk is out of the way.

I have a box in the living room for the "50 items collection" and I'm seriously considering mamavegan's negative number plan.

The dining and coffee tables are all but clear. They should be done within the next day or two.

And lastly, I'm a visual gal, so I put together a flick'r album to help motivate me throughout the month.

Whew I'm getting so inspired by everyone's progress. You're awesome!
The coffee table is clear!

The dining table is clear!

Well over 50 items have been marked for give-away or donate!

We're also making tons of progress in the dressing room. The next update will most-likely include the completion of that room. How freakin' fabulous is that, man?!

It looks like everyone is kicking some major decluttering butt!

My number is holding steady at about 177, but I'm able to get some deep cleaning done now that the clutter is gone. The only goal I had when I started was to be rid of 150 items. However, I've achieved so much more. My dining area, toy area, and kitchen are staying nice and tidy. My bedroom closet has been thinned out and looking nice. I've gotten rid of things that were just sitting in cabinets in my bathroom. I've stayed on top of the laundry as well. There are a few hot spots still hanging about, but those will be my goals after I finish putting together my holiday gifts to family. This thread has really inspired me and I'm so glad that I'm taking part!

Got rid of 2 bags of cat food today. woohoo!

I threw out three single socks missing their mates rather than holding onto them hoping the mate will turn up. That gets me up to 18 with 102 left to go for the month.

We went to a white elephant party this weekend. After the past couple months of decluttering I hardly had anything to take as my gift. That was encouraging and frustrating at the same time.

My lame update: 3 misc Christmas items

I started to work on the laundry room cabinets (because they REALLY annoy me), but I got sidetracked. I'm hoping to finish that up today.

Freecycle saves me again

I now have 34 items awaiting pick-up tomorrow

(I'm counting them today because I know the person picking up and she's good for it!!)

I decluttered 2000 things on Sunday! Okay, I actually decluttered 2 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles, but I wanted to sound impressive.

This weekend I also decluttered:
- my son's art stuff drawers (counting this as 10)
- my bill/paper stuff and reorganized in some hanging file folders. I'm counting this as 10 because I did not count every piece of paper
- 1 toy car
- 2 random small toys

I think I did other things, but I am awful at the counting part. So I'm at at least 38/100. And I have had some great feedback about my kitchen and am formulating a plan. Time to reduce the price on that buffet and get it out of my dining room!

Oh, and 4 CD's!

42/100

I'm not doing too good with my original plan of purging and organizing clothes...I'm avoiding it. It's just so overwhelming...

In my defense, I am cleaning other things! And I finally just donated that small pile of things I won't ever use, that were brand new, instead of keeping it to sell one day - and boy did that feel good!

Just today I cleared out my one messy cabinet and donated 48 things (kids cups, utensils I don't really need, etc.)

It was unrealistic of me to think I could get the clothes done in the midst of holiday activites, so I'm just resetting my goals. January I will have all the clothes taken care of.
