We went from being an observer to this in like a week. No more getting my hopes up...she seemed perfect.

I look at it this way...

Either A) You get your unassisted labor, something happens, and you go to the ER/OB... which would happen with our without the MW... (I mean, really, can the MW prevent your whatever from rupturing? Sorry about terms, I'm half asleep)
or B) You get your unassisted labor AND birth

Really don't quite see the point of paying someone $3500 to call 911 for you. I mean, I'm sure that you or your DH of 10 years would be perfectly capable.

Yeah, I like logic. The point is lost on me too!

Hey, I'm glad I stumbled onto this thread....I have some questions to clarify. Not that it matters to you so much--I can see you've come to your own conclusions and I am SO glad of the conclusions you've come to! But for my own clarity:

Are you saying that this mw--

carries and uses cytotec in hb situtations?

believes that one can 'safely' use chemical induction in a VBAC? Even in a multiple csec mama like you?

believes her experience makes her The Boss of You?

has non-evidence-based prescriptions for 'greater safety of VBAC laboring' (being on your side)?

Believes or assumes that only scars are involved in a rupture (thus, her wish to protect the scar during labor)? In other words, does not know that a u/r might happen in *any* spot on the uterus?

Believes or assumes that u/r happens in VBACs only during labor? (rather than being possible at any time, and especially btwn 33-38wks or so, during baby's phase of fastest growth when the uterus must stretch the fastest and most)

Anyway, if you feel like answering these questions, I'd sure appreciate it.

And I am SO GLAD that you processed all this through before going much further with this woman. She is no doubt THE mw for some women. And the more you said about her, the less she seemed to be THE mw for YOU!

thanks

I don't know if she carries it, but she SURE loves it! Raving like she had a school girl crush on it! *sigh*

Yes, in her mind, it is very safe and carries no (or very minimal) risk. I STRONGLY disagree...even for NON VBAC mamas!

Yes, she's the boss & she calls the shots. "If I say this labor isn't progressing I NEED you to immediatly go to the hospital." Um, no. My body, my baby, my call. I am more than willing to seek help if I deem it wise however this is MY call...and I assume full liability for it.

She seems quite fearful of rupture, in labor. I was more concerned with placental issues but she poo-poo'd that.

Yeah, I am glad she showed her true self quite early on, especially before I paid her. *sigh* She wasn't at all fearful the first SEVERAL conversations. Then last time, we need an OB on call during the entire labor, etc. No, no we don't. I am kind of glad it happened, I felt much more secure & confidant when I was just going it alone. I like the idea of a VERY hands off MW hanging out...but this type of energy is just not an asset.

You wanna come? I wish some of the MW's here were closer!
